    Air Suspension intermitent

+2! Im still convinced my air rear end stops excessive body roll, which gives it very nice handling. I changed mine the moment it started dropping, all good now, got new ones from Paddock, they are in Britpart boxes but they are the Conti OEM ones. If the air springs are original they are...

    Injector seals

I didnt remove any fuel from the head when I did mine. Just make sure the mating surfaces where the copper washers seal on the head are spotlessly clean, use a torch to look down the pocket where the injector sits. I used IPA and cotton wool wrapped around a screw driver (wrap the screw...

    TD5 "normal" set up

Id be a bit careful about using Carb or Brake cleaner on sensors, try using IPA, its much less aggressive. Material compatibility page, for anyone whos bored! http://www.efunda.com/designstandards/oring/oring_chemical.cfm?SM=none&SC=Xylene#mat

    tyres

+1 for Grabber AT,s. Done 5K+ so far on mine, doing Scotland again on Monday so thats a few more. The noise doesnt bother me now Ive fixed the speakers and put in a DAB/USB radio :) Also despite the F economy rating, I still get around 33 MPG on runs. Mark

    This video was a shocker.

The Dateline programme was a bit more encouraging! Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz0H4ZQvPhE The car makers comments are cringe worthy!

    TD5 Fuel Pressure problem

MTurri that is a great cutaway pic! Never seen it before! +1 on seals and washers, as Sierrafery said its classic symptoms of seal failure. Mine did the same as yours, pain to start then if it was left idling for more than 5 mins it the revs slowly dropped off until it stalled, restarted after...

    300tdi brakes nightmare

Quick thought, 993,s suffered badly from whats called "caliper plate lift". The caliper was Alloy, but it had steel liners so the pads edges could slide in the caliper without digging into the "softer" alloy. Corrosion (due to dissimilar metals) would build up between liner and the caliper...

    300tdi brakes nightmare

Didnt know D1,s dont have sliding calipers, I do now! Two cars I once owned, an MG Midget and a 993 Porsche both had DOT 5 put into them by previous owners, both had seized/partially seized pistons all round! If its put in without cleaning every bit of the normal fluid out first, it forms a...

    300tdi brakes nightmare

Hi Im ready to get flamed on this but, brake judder is rarely caused by "warped" discs. Good 10 min read here -Warped- Brake Disc and Other Myths Ive driven many cars for many years and done support for track cars and I dont think ive ever seen a genuinely warped disc. Judder is usually...

    Using as a van

If your budget is tight Id think twice about an 4x4 for a work vehicle, unless you need a 4x4 and if someone else is paying the bills! I love my D2 Commercial, it ticked my boxes but its not a cheap car/van to run, Ive needed 4x4 for some of the sites I visit and I use the full load space, its...

How long should TD5 take to warm up?

Mine warms up after about 4-5 miles on the A1. Problem I find is my left leg gets very hot, the right stays cold! I think whoever did the heater distribution pipes also did the ones on my old MG Midget, that would roast your left leg! Anyone else find the same thing?!

    Rear diff

Ha I did something similar years ago, bloke gave me a free Mk2 Escort Estate, it was taxed, MOT, even had service bills. "broke down, overheated etc" I changed the head gasket in his driveway, started first turn, sounded very sweet, he didnt mind, actually I think he was pleased I didnt scrap...

Disco 2 loss of power on motorway help needed parked up

Yes Im lucky, Im in Estonia, nice and snowy and -10 soon! -30 not uncommon. But we still have outside barbies, with lots of icy vodka! Insulation probably ok, it may be a capacitance issue which could explain why the closely bunched wires in the loom are affected rather than the spread apart...

Disco 2 loss of power on motorway help needed parked up

Looks like that was the problem then! BTW I commented on my first intro post here that I had my doubts about how oil in the loom would cause issues, this was based on my customers using oil as an insulator in power systems. I also said on this thread that it must be something temperature...

Disco 2 loss of power on motorway help needed parked up

Ive used contact cleaner, but ideally you want something that wont leave a residue. WD40 works but Jizer, not Gunk, seems to be better. Or Isopropyl alcohol spray

Disco 2 loss of power on motorway help needed parked up

Good luck, try just cleaning/checking one thing at a time then testing, its a bit laborious but it will lead you to the actual fault. Got to hit the sack now, Im 2 hours ahead of you here! Mark

Disco 2 loss of power on motorway help needed parked up

Consider the effects of each sensor. The AAP, if it was blocked, would be blocked all the time, so its signal output to the ECM (engine brain) would be "bad" all the time. What we seem to be looking for is a sensor thats affected by the engine warming up. So its unlikely to be the MAF. Apart...

Disco 2 loss of power on motorway help needed parked up

The AAP sensor seems to have less of a dramatic effect on performance, limits turbo boost, more effects from higher altitude, as others have said, disconnecting it sometimes makes the engine run better!

ps, make sure the MAF connector plug is clean, again small things can trip up fault diagnostics

Disco 2 loss of power on motorway help needed parked up

The TD5 manual is actually for the Defender but assuming its in the same place, it should be "on the coolant outlet elbow on top of the engine" Its on the left side of the engine when viewed from the rear, or the right when your looking at it with the bonnet open! Hope that helps, lots of pics...
