    New Defender..a few questions

I'm seriously thinking of going for a new defender and my strategy is to hang on to it for 10-12 years, with that in mind do you lads ( and ladettes) think that the new machine will be up to it? I mean is the chassis etc designed to be replacable in the series-like tradition? Will this new...

    They think its all over....

The point I'm making is that Ireland was the first to ban smoking in pubs and the rest of Europe followed too, the "emmission" card could be played out in other countries...so watch out.

    Defender 90 rear seats

I was looking at the new 90 defender with the forward facing rear seats and at older TD5 model with the side facing seats, is there a major safety issue with the side facing seats?

    They think its all over....

........it is now. This could be the shape of things to come, yesterday the Irish Minister of the Enviroment ( Green party ) introduced new car tax based on CO2 emmissions, so my dream date with an 07 Defender could come to nought. Currently a 2.5 lt disesel costs about € 850 to tax under...

    300 tdi judder

Hi, 300tdi 142k miles, timing belt done @ 112k miles, head done 138k miles - finding mild judder through the steering wheel and engine seems to complain / under perform between 2000-2500 rpm when accellerating, also there is a fan belt squeak as she accellerates - any suggestions?

    300TDi overheated

That happened to me this summer my 300tdi blew its head gasket on a long run towing a horse box, it transpired that my water pump had a small leak and the expansion tank ran dry, it really made me f***ing sick, I'm not usually that thick! So make sure your system hasn't got a leak when you get...

    Gearstick trim

The leather around my gearstick ( I should think of a better way of saying that ) needs replacing. Any websites with trim accessories like that in the UK?

    Life Span

Thanks lads, thats all very encouraging about the mileage but with regards wax oil whats the deal? Is it never too late to get it done or should the chassis be treated for rust first?

    Rear Seats

Thanks Auzboy82 got any brands or websites for the seat your're talking about, the seat I have ( in the disco) has both options but the lap belt option doesn't give me much faith because it just secures the seat at the lap ( obviously!) leaving a lot of play at the top i.e. the top of the seat...

    Rear Seats

Thanks Ian for the info - exmoortrim's approved seat is very nice but £ 495 each!, the front middle lap belt is an option ( i'd have to get one fitted ) but its the usual story, you'd never forgive yourself if you didn't try to have the safest set up for your kids, but my child seat i have in...

    Life Span

I should say that I pull a horse box for about 20 weeks of the year with two horses ( about 3 ton in total ) into some ****ty fields, so this lady works hard, its a good piont munster about the chassis, I've noticed some rust on the rear wheel arches and touch them up with a hammerite treatment...

    Life Span

I have a 98 SI disco ( 300tdi) with 141000 miles, I've replaced the clutch (100k) the headgasket / waterpump (138k). I know that any vehicle can go on forever, with maintenance ability of many of you lads, however I'm not handy with spanners ( I'm an oil and fuse changer only ) and I'm looking...

    Common Rail?

CharlesY I have a SI 1998 disco with a 300tdi, she has 145k miles on her and I'm hoping to run her until she's at 175k and if she blows up then so be it, that's why I'm interested / budgeting for the defender 2007 model ( the new disco doesn't do it for me), so you're saying the 300 tdi is a...

    Common Rail?

Thanks for info guys, but is common rail an improvement? If the 200/ 300tdi or Td5 is just as good why fix it if it an't broken? Also any comment on the transit engine query?

    Common Rail?

Re : The new defender with the transit engine. Firstly what does common rail mean? And can you make a direct comparison with the engine reliability of the van model with the defender model, surely there must be huge modification differences ? Thanks in advance.
