Switched on my electric fan once in anger. Very steep hill pulling a trailer on a v hot day and that was just because I could, it wasn't too hot! Incidentally mine is an old frontera fan £5 and it fits perfect?
My money would be on the battery. I would if possible go for a straight swap of the Disco battery just to test it. You might find a duff battery zaps the power when you try jump starting.
I have 1995 130 and when I pulled the front off I had half a belt left and a casing full of rubber shreds.
After reading around I put on a kit with full new casing. Been perfect since and I have peace of mind.
Have a poke at them mine was slightly worse than that. Just 2hrs with a grinder and a borrowed welder no problem. I bet its a nightmare welding new outriggers across the top with bulkhead in place.
I'd fit a 200tdi out of a Discovery and then strip and rebuild the original engine. You will have time on your side then to either diagnose a terminal fault or rebuild a documented and perfect engine to re-use or sell on?
Is there an alternative to the Hylomar sealant? It is Hylomar 3400 Anaerobic sealant on the rave cd but im short of time and Turners are out of stock! Is there an alternative? loctite seem to do a range. Has anyone used anything else successfully
Im putting a turner head on a TD5 can I wire up the chain to the cam pulley and lift the head over? Looking at pictures the chain tensioners seem to hold cam pulley and chain tight. Is this ok or do I need a different approach?
Cheers
Frontera fan fits perfect wire it to switch in dash ive never needed mine in 3 years towing and stuck in traffic? Peace of mind its there tho and flick it on occasionally for peace of mind when its working hard.
Since my engine swap 18 months ago my temperature needle sits exactly on the start of the red (I treat this as the norm). Only time it climbs is towing a trailer up a long hill. 200tdi rarely run warm in day to day use just flick the electric fan on when engine is doing a bit of work.
