    doors4defenders

Sink hole for the Defender to become damaged yes. Cars with low profile tyres only need a sharp edge with an inch or so drop to damage them on national speed limit areas. It's a long and drawn out process for pot hole damage but normally works if you have photos as evidence. The main problem is...

    doors4defenders

If that was a pothole on the road then the Council would be liable to pay for any damage caused to your vehicle if you hit it. I know it's only a 'fender door but for a company to continue sending out products knowing they are likely to become damaged during transit is pretty poor. Did they...

    Power drop off on hills

Crikey that's a bit scarey, hope mine doesn't do anything crazy like that. Did it not start using coolant before it blew? I've decided I'm not going to drive it again until I get it serviced and checked over.

    Power drop off on hills

Afraid not, I'm a bit lazy when it comes to working on the Land Rover. Don't even do my own servicing

    Power drop off on hills

When you experience the loss of power have you noticed if you are getting black smoke from the exhaust? Having re-read your problem my symptoms are different, consistently flat when trying to pull up a hill so is pointing to insufficient fuel for the engine. No black smoke at all, not even...

    Power drop off on hills

I've been experiencing something like this recently so will keep an eye on this thread. Mine accelerates fine if you are progressive with the throttle but trying to maintain a given speed up an incline using the torque from the turbo is hard work. I've got a new lift pump to go on as I have not...

    spare wheel mount for boost

Sorry I figured that after I'd replied, I added a bit on the end of the last post. I was just suggesting to use the steel spare with the original sized tyre as a spare, bit like a space saver on a car. Not swap to the 265.

    spare wheel mount for boost

Not sure of your point exactly. Was merely pointing out that if the steel spare was OK for use with 235/85 then the diameter of the 265/75 tyre is pretty much the same. Bit like a space saver spare on a car is alright to get you on your way again. The point is a bit redundant if the OP wants an...

    spare wheel mount for boost

The rolling diameter of a 235/85r16 and 265/75r16 are near enough identical, so would guess that if the steel spare was good enough for the 235/85 then it should be fine for the 265/75 too

    Defender differences

The rear cross member changed when it went from Tdi to TD5. Little plastic caps were put on the end of the bumper on later Defenders too. Age related colours. Not really visual but the panels got thinner as the Defender aged apparently. The joiner we use has had a string of Defenders and...

Lack of boost and supercharger whine

Having searched around a bit on some forums I think I may get the lift pump changed when I get it serviced. There's no black smoke now when I put my foot down. It used to smoke a little when it was boosting, so that would indicate it isn't getting as much fuel as it used to. May have a boost...

    Refreshing a 21 Year Old 300Tdi??

Thanks for the advice, I get mates rates so I could spend an entire weekend beating myself up or let him do it and save myself loads of hassle. It'll be getting serviced soon so will see what he recommends. 1)I'm after something that looks as standard as possible, so would want the shocks to be...

    Refreshing a 21 Year Old 300Tdi??

After falling completely out of love with my 1996 90 CSW big time September last year, it lived in the garage on and off of a smart charger until 2 weeks ago. For various reasons, mainly my daily driver being jinxed, I want to give the old girl a bit of a spruce up so it's nicer to drive. I'm...

Do I have the wrong wheels?

They were standard wheels for the late 300tdi Defenders with County spec added, early ones came with steel wheels. Not sure if they were ever fitted to the TD5, as above, I think they should be boost wheels.

Lack of boost and supercharger whine

Haven't actually removed the pipes to check but will be buying a new set of silicone pipes soon. The whine is intermittent which I only hear once every ten journeys or so, so it's confusing me a bit. Will be sending it to my mate soon for a service so will get him to investigate! Cheers

Lack of boost and supercharger whine

Recently the performance of my 300tdi has been dropping off gradually. It picks up the same as it always has, and if you accelerate smoothly through the rev range it pulls "OK". When I first got it it would quite happily pull up a certain hill at 55 with ease. However it now drops to at least...

    Heater Glow Plugs

Spent a few minutes searching, it's "shear torque" that I think is wrote on the box. Exceed this torque when removing and you risk breaking the plug.

    Heater Glow Plugs

I seem to remember there are a few torque figure on the box of the Beru plugs. "Break off torque" is something completely different to do with bearings, but I'm sure there are some figures on the glow plug box which specifies the maximum torque before they could possibly snap or fail. A long...
