Iv tried every gear change imaginable! When it's cold it's impossible to get second but once warm it's fine, Would a mechanic problem like a warn baulk ring be worse in the cold? And would that only affect one gear? I hope it's not cos that sounds dear..... Thanks for the replies chaps

Like for like would've less work but you seem to prefer the idea of a 300 why don't look out for either and go for whichever decent engine is available? I don't think there's much init engine wise, we are talking about the 2.7 turbo nissan engine? The sort fitted to taxis over here?

Weird.... It's seems to have cured its self. The whole lever was stiff to operate when I first got it, selecting low and engaging diff lock was difficult. With a bit of use its freedoff and the light works every time now. Cheers for the advice lads,

I've got an auto 300tdi it's spot on off road, have you checked the stop solenoid? It seems unlikely to be anything other than an electric fault if it died in its sleep as you put it:) Do edc vehicles have tradition stop solenoids?
