Charlotte, I have put a can of injector cleaner in the tank and it has improved a lot, but it is still not right. I will try the compression test next and see what happens. Thanks Dave.

It feels as though my 300tdi is running on 3 cylinders when accelerating from 1800 rpm to about 2500 rpm. It feels worst in 2nd gear when pulling hard up hill. Its not so apparent in the higher gears and doesn't seem to affect the performance very much. Any idea where I should start to look...

Good news is that the bulb was gone in the fuel gauge and it seems I must have imagined that there was a "lights on" warning light. All is now fine.
