    have I killed my gearbox

Yep. Parked up now. Will try later and report. Btw that was a scary moment. Not sure if I did the right thing but it certainly worked. May consider an off road driving course and learn some basics.

    have I killed my gearbox

Had an arse clenching moment today. Was climbing a short steep very icy hill in low range (auto p38) when I ground to a halt thro lack of grip and started sliding back out of control. So rather than sliding backwards with brakes locked and car starting to slew sideways, I gave it some gas and...

    Rear door locks

Both my rear door locks have never worked off the central locking. Have replaced the drivers side door lock for another problem and hoped it might fix them but it didn't. Any thoughts ? Maybe I'll just pick up a couple of latches. Steve

    Pressurising 4.6

When my man fitted my top hat block. He said in his opinion the p38 doesn't suffer with head gasket failure, just lack of surface area on top of the liners to make a good seal. I think he's got a point when you look at it !

    Battery charging socket fitted

Was at a bit of a loose end the other night so I fitted a battery charging socket to my P38 front bumper. I nicked the idea from a post on rr.net so I cant claim the glory, but it now means I can plug in my trickle charger without lifting the bonnet and removing the battery cover. An Oxford...

    P38 Battery charging improved

My meter only registered an extra .1 of a volt at the alternator with the new leads, maybe its was just the connection I made was a little better. Maybe its just my cheap old meter. But 5 days on there's no sign of the usual battery drop. Steve

    P38 Battery charging improved

As Im sure many have experienced in the last couple of weeks, the battery on my 4.6 has been getting slowly weaker (short journeys, everything on flat out) so Ive been hooking the car up to my oxford maximiser overnight every few days. So I thought I would do a few checks, voltage across the...

    Liners Slipped?

White smoke would go (initially) as soon as it warmed up but mine deteriorated so fast I stopped using it so there wouldnt be any further damage, interestingly the guy who rebuilt it said that in his opinion (20 years land rover tech) the p38 v8s dont suffer head gasket failure in the true...

Maybe an answer for all the queations about LPG

My 2p worth. I have a 4.6 lpg that does 14mpg on gas (+ a bit of petrol for starting) I also had a 2.5 DSE that wouldnt do more than 21mpg and wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding ! I'll take the V8 all day long but each to their own. ;)

    Door Lock Fault

Thanks for the input. I've come to the conclusion that its not compatible as it won't unlock the boot or switch the interior light on, so I've replaced the old one until a new one comes up. On the bright side I can change the lock assembly in 15 mins Inc the door card. ;)
