Just came across this post after returning from hols with this mod. We found out too late about the glove box problem whilst looking for the satnav. Mind you the way she's filling out recently I may be able to do without the door mounted holder on her side !:)

I asked about a similar problem with my p38 diesel and ended up replacing the transfer box due to a worn Morse or Borg Warner chain. My indie garage just replaced the box with a reconditioned one rather than take the transfer box apart to replace the chain. Very similar symptoms, a clunking...

The Hevac is easily removed and on the back are 4 (?) little bulbs to replace. another common fault is a loose wire on one of the plugs into the back that you need to unplug to get access to the back of the unit.

Sorry to read that Grit Valve. Are you sure you're quitting RR ownership or do you have another lurking in the Garage ? Anyway, my p38 2.5 DHSE did Wigan to Birmingham and back, then up to Carnforth and back all in the same day today ! ! No problems at all ! That even surprised me ! !

I picked my p38 diesel up from my mates garage after having a recon transfer box fitted. The morse chain (cheers Datatek et al ) was slipping. I can't believe the difference now its fixed ! the pick up on acceleration is so smooth and no banging or juddering ! It just might make it to Devon and...

Would it not be cheaper and quicker to just replace the whole unit ? Extra cost of reconditioned unit offset by saving on labour dismantling and rebuilding Transfer box ?

Just done the VCU test and its OK. I reported back to my mech mate and he's looking into costs for replacing the transfer box. Is this the bit with the Morse/Borg warner chain in ?

I'm getting worried now, but keep the suggestions coming please. :(. @Datatek I only have a bottle jack and don't fancy that test on me own. I'll try it down the garage when I have access to a better Jack.

I 've done the search and nothing seems quite on the money as far as my problem goes. Since getting my 2000 2.5 DHSE there was a clunking noise under hard acceleration from stationary. It feels like its under the middle of the car. My solution was to not accelerate hard and everything was ok...

Just spoke to my mate the mechanic, the squeak keeping pace with road speed turned out to be front drive shaft. When removing the leaking oil cooler pipes to replace them he sheared the bolts in to the oil rad. He's managed to source recon parts and all is set to be put back together on the...

Just got back from the Rugby club after celebrating doing my Radiator ! Like they all say hit the nut harder ! I used a thin spanner I had from a Flymo, put an open ended spanner on to it and hit it hard ! Hey presto, nut loosened, fan off radiator out and replaced. Total time about 1 1/2 hours...

Just been recovered from the Lakes, the thing overheated going up a long hill. My Radiator has a split (10cm) right along the plastic bit at the very top where it looks like a pipe runs along it.
