Depends on how long you will keep it. I just get the cheap stuff from the pound shop and then plenty of underseal on it.

I sounds like the pump has gone which will mean head gasket as well. Dont mess around get another engine for it or strip it for bits.

I would be more worried about rot than service history.

Well for a 300 TDi you are looking at late Discovery 1 not 2 so you will be looking at 14-15 years old now swo most likley need a lot of work on them. IMO I think you would be better keeping the Ambulance as it should last for years.
