    Access through the firewall

Yes on mine.......about 10. Basically all the running gear like track rod ends, swivels, idler arm joint, propshaft and so on.

    Access through the firewall

It is the sort of vision that nightmares are made of. I guess you start and have to just go on. There is an expression I heard on a science fiction TV show/film which goes something like "when you get in to trouble keep going till you get out of it".;) Great pics but I am having trouble seeing...

    Access through the firewall

Mine is an auto and I had a feeling it might be the way to go as I have used that approach before. Thanks

    Access through the firewall

I need to run a wire (or three) from the battery in the engine bay to the cab. Is there a ready made access hole in the three door TD4?

    Freelander Project IV (Bertie)

I had an LJ80 back in the day and though I may be wrong (memory is not doing well looking back roughly 30 years) I think the rear hub - don't remember the front at all - had just a flat drum. I paint drums with gold Hammerite once I have had at it with a welders chip hammer , bastard file and...

    My trip to Bell Engineering

I still don't see how I can get it more true 90° without some sort of tech equipment. If I had used the old bearing mounts the tippex marks would have possibly done the trick.

Freelander 1 Further thanks ...............to Nodge68

I want also to express my gratitude to John - Nodge68 - for sharing his expertise with me without which I expect I might not have been remotely interested in tackling this job.

    Grab handle

Or one for the A pillar???

    Grab handle

Any ideas how to locate the holes without taking off the door sealer and pulling the liner away John?? If I had rough measurements I would stick a pin in to feel for the mounts.:) I cannot believe there is no grab handle on anywhere in the front.:eek: I like one on the pillar (A pillar...

    Freelander Project IV (Bertie)

Over the years I have had a stud that lost its grip in the hub, broken ones (one done by me and ones like you) and ones I have stripped. I have changed a good few and I have to say I view removing nuts (possibly done by Kwikfit types) for the first time on a new acquisition with REAL...

    My trip to Bell Engineering

"Exactly" well that is a difficult one John- I tried to ensure that the mounts were parallel and in line with the chassis/underframe and at 90° to the VCU centre line but I was doing it by eye. The mounting slots for the bolts allow a fore and aft adjustment but not a lateral adjustment and I...

    Grab handle

Nope. I'd have gone ahead if it had. I was hoping the threaded inserts would be there under the headlining; if they are I'll pull it to see the placement.

    Grab handle

Did a search but didn't really find a solution. I want a grab handle above the door in my 3 door FL1. I want it so I can lever my decrepit self out of/into the mota. I found this but it doesn't resolve the issue. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/roof-grab-handle.265534/#post-3204099

Alternative to the fluid coupling (VCU)

I'd say most at some time or another. It is buyers like I was recently that possibly are the ignorant majority. In all the FLs I looked at there was never an answer to the question "Has the VCU been changed?" Thus is an old thread and I didn't read all of it but hey, it's an ongoing current...

    My trip to Bell Engineering

Yes I see...........I don't have good enough weld skills though I do weld I admit I am not ever gonna get offered jobs on oil rigs. If I were going down the DIY route I'd try adding bleed nipples etc. I just wanted a quick over and done with job and I am so far pleased with what I got.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Finally finished the job of removing and replacing the VCU with a Bell recon one.

    My trip to Bell Engineering

Had I had to do it myself I expect that is what I would have done but after whacking it with a cold chisel and club hammer forever I decided to take up their offer of letting them separate the prop and VCU.;)

    My trip to Bell Engineering

Thought you'd never ask.:D:D I came away with a recon VCU, two fitted support bearings and a recon propshaft. A great and productive day's outing. Just finished fitting the lot this morning. Not test driven it yet though.
