Series 3 New Project but with a slight identity challenge

Found the VIN plate :-) it's on the inside of the cab on the passenger side of the dashboard!

Series 3 New Project but with a slight identity challenge

We (my son and I) have just bought a series 3 88 inch to work on together ready for him to drive initially off-road then on road once he turns 17. It's had some restoration carried out - galv chassis, bulkhead with no vents and has had engine changed to 2.25 NA diesel having been built with 2.25...

    CCV Fuel Tank questions

Thank you, that sounds simple, can you let me see a photo? The brass tube on the underside of my filler cap does have a ball in it held up with a spring. I'm not sure what the black tube does, that has a mesh inside I think.

    Smiths Oil Pressure Gauge

    Thank you :)

    Smiths Oil Pressure Gauge

Another daft question I'm afraid - what is a "good" reading for a 3.5l V8?

    Smiths Oil Pressure Gauge

Thanks Pete, I think there are two senders above the oil filter with a separate wire to each, will do some tracing back to the lamp and the gauge.

    Smiths Oil Pressure Gauge

Thanks Flossie. So if I'm understanding this correctly, the gauge gets +12v from the battery and the sender unit gives a variable resistance to earth in order to give the reading? I should see differing resistance between earth and the connector of the sender unit when engine stopped and running?

    Smiths Oil Pressure Gauge

All, another plea for help - this time regarding the oil pressure gauge on my trialer (3.5l V8 with fuel injection from a range rover I think?). With the ignition off I get a reading of zero, with ignition on but engine not running I get full scale on the gauge. I'm thinking that the gauge is...

    CCV Fuel Tank questions

All, I bought an ALRC log booked 88in trialer last year, it had it's first detailed scrutineering session earlier this month and one issue was the lack of external vent on the fuel tank. I've attached a few photos but my understanding is that I need to seal the fuel filler cap so that it does...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Changed the rear brake pads on my trialer. What do folk do with the old (in this case very warn) pads? There was a little bit of friction material left on two of them :-o

Disco 1 Bump and grind :-(

Hmmm, these caliper bolts have a head that's new to me. I think the name is 12 point? My good old Halfords sockets have twelve points, are these suitable or do I need a special set of sockets for this type of bolt? Part number is FTC3375

Disco 1 Bump and grind :-(

Turns out that the top bolt on the OSF brake caliper is missing, will source a replacement! Thanks for your thoughts.

Disco 1 Bump and grind :-(

I have a 300Tdi shod in fairly new 205/16 all terrain tyres otherwise pretty standard other than snorkel and steering guard. Having had a great day laning around West Norfolk on my drive home I noticed a single knock every time I applied the foot brake. Now back home, I'm getting a feeling like...

    Removing Panhard Rod Bolts

Thanks Aaron, the bolt will move about 10mm or so after a lot of twisting but it is incredibly stiff. Didn't know the rubber bushes has a sleeve, the replacement poly ones do though :-)

    Removing Panhard Rod Bolts

I'm sure there must be a knack to this - I've got the nut off the upper bolt on the panhard rod on my trialer (believed to be a 110 front axle) but cannot extract the bolt. It will not unscrew, have tried to knock it out (possibly too gently). The bolt turns with extreme difficulty - I expect...

    My 88in Trialer

Not sure, is certainly an inline pump, no idea of the operating pressure. Fuel filter on the engine bay bulkhead is the size of a coke can. Pickup pipe is about a third back in the tank and tank was 3/4 full on the last outing. As you say, I assumed it must be working to some extent, but must be...

    My 88in Trialer

Will have to get someone to help me next time then James! I turned the ignition on, walked round then attached meter probes, could have easily taken 4 secs, however it looks to me like some parts of the donor vehicle's loom may well have not been transferred to the trialer. Given the return path...
