Na, just the pressure is maintained from the turbo to the intercooler. I might be wrong though. But the do definatly wear out after years of use. I think the silicone ones have some use, but mainly only if your really specing it up.

I thought the silicone hoses just held there shape better, they don't expand as much as rubber ones, so lose you less pressure from your turbo. Also the rubber ones de-laminate eventually. I think.

To get mine out, i ended up releasing the surround on that side. Took off the power steering res, the the side wall top bolt. It swings away now just enough to get the intercooler out.
