its not the only way, theres always the option of dropping the tank and doing it the proper way. i did mine (when i had one) and it dont take long to drop it, you can have the tank off in an hour.

the top section is the fuel quntity control and will come with your new/ recon pump, you can change this part seprate but if your changing the whole pump theres no need.

take the pipe of that comes out the the fuel filter and then turn the ignition on, you should have a nice flow for a few seconds while the pump in the tank primes. next i would check power on the fuel solinoid valve on the back of the main injection pump, with the ignition on you should see...

i did the mods myself, a nice bit of 62mm stainless if my memorys servs takes the place of the weighty and restrictive box and cat. you can flog the cat after aswel and make the money back you spent on the stainless, win win.:D

cat and centre box are the biggest restrictions on the system, makes it sound nice but not too loud aswel.

the hubs get rusted in, get a nice sharpe chiesel and put it between the hub and the axle then work your way round till it falls off. it might take some doing but providing you taken the bolts out the hub it should eventually come off. happy hitting.
