I know it's an old thread but since I got a fairly similar question as smbaker above, I figured we don't need a new thread. ;) So I also need to replace that seal. It's a 2005 110 TD5 Defender and that oil is coming out of the diff right where the prop shaft sits. What exact seal do I need?

The water is not getting into the car or into the A-post. It's just entering the space between bulkhead and windscreen frame and running along the top of the bulkhead corners and then down the a-post. And that is causing some rust on the outside of the bulkhead corners. I hope this explains it...

Yeah, I know about the holes, I did that with sand paper afterwards. My test was more about flat surfaces. That's normally what you can do with an angle grinder.

I tried the CSD disc to remove all the corrosion on the surface and the result looks pretty neat. Bare metal without without too much damage or thinning.

Wow, that's some serious corrosion. And really hard to stop because because of the direct connection with the body crossmember. Hard to believe they still built cars like that till 2014! ;-) Mine looks like this. A lot better but I still need rivet on a repair patch.

Are you saying that a CSD disc is not suitable or do you just prefer your method?

By tub you mean the crossmember? Did you just unbolt it and move it back a bit? Or did you also have the side panels out?

How did you clean up the panels from behind where they are attached to the body crossmember? Mine are in direct contact with the crossmember with no space between the two surfaces. So the only way I see to get access is to remove the crossmember. Or is there a better way? If you just treat the...
