    Creaking sound

Right, minor paranoia has set in after numerous car repairs - ie keep hearing noises (no hallucinations as of yet though :D ) When driving, i hear a very slight creak sound - cant seem to locate where it's coming from (noticied it today first time so havent had a look under). Does seem to be...

    More problems -now the engine

From what my mechanic said there are a couple of tensioners on the timing chain loop and that its a relatively complicated system (time-wise for repair). Although he also said that in all his years he'd only had one TD4 come in with chain / tensioner problems. This is the same mechanic who did...

    More problems -now the engine

Curious - how would crankshaft pulley failure damage the crankshaft? ie what could happen? I thought the crankshaft would be incredibly strong, and shouldn't be able to be bent by the belt tension / crankshaf pulley tension.

    Glow plug removal on TD4

Earth points are in RAVE - AFAIK the main earth point is connected to the engine block / gearbox (follow the negative lead from the battery under the earthing tray and further on). I'm not aware of any earthing points under the e-box / fuses...might be mistaken though. I spoke to a Land Rover...

hi, thanks for the suggestion, not sure its a way i'd like to go, but a great way to test if it works - ill see if im handy enough to give it a go. i'm still hoping to work out where the problem is so it works nomally - new plugs, new relay and all other dash lights work.

    Glow plug removal on TD4

Glad you got it sorted, i'm still trying to track down where the fault in my system is :) not entirely sure how to proceed now, but bought a multimeter on the weekend (only goes up to 10A current though) and might poke about a bit. Failing that, i might have to take it to an independent so...

ok found it - checked the connectors to the glass element in the tailgate before i left work - the fault was there. One of the wires was almost off and the connector was corroded :-) - so on first inspection it all looked ok. thanks for all the tips anyway.

    Somethings Not Right!?

True, 30 years in a garage maybe not, but 30 years Engineering and Design skills yes - how many garages do you go to where the technicians are qualified engine designers? mechanical engineers? electrical engineers? the type of chaps that study the thermal envelope of specifica alloys with...

    Somethings Not Right!?

Ok, there is SOME truth in that, BUT....the point is not only WHAT engine you own, but what education / training / experience you have that relates to the subject. If someone here has never owned a K-series, but has 30 years engine design and engineering under his belt, then that is an...

    Somethings Not Right!?

The way i see it, with advice it goes something like this - just my view: You go somewhere with a question, looking for advice. Many will give you their opinions and comments, which will usually vary due to different experiences, knowledge, interpretations or opinions. It's up to you if you...

    Heated Rear Window TD4

Had ice on this morning, and seemed to drop off when the car was warm inside (ie due to heater blowing) rather than the usual of seeing the de-mist lines appear on the rear glass from where the heat spreads from the heating wire (if you know what i mean).

    Heated Rear Window TD4

Hi, i repaired my broken tailgate regulator cables with an e-bay kit a while ago - but now i'm noticing the tailgate windows does not seem to heat up when the rear window heat button is pressed. I checked the fues in drivers side fuse box, thats fine. The light on the windows heater control...

    Glow plug removal on TD4

well, thats cack - after getting the car back from the garage where it had the crankshaft pulley done, i finally get to check if my new glow plugs and relay mean the system works now. Nope...not a sausage - so, ive got new glow plugs, new relay, and the light on the dash does not light up...

    New Freelander Feature - Rattle!

mine is on 120k miles. Will you be replacing the bolt? -- Will be interested to see what the others say about the old bolt being used - not sure i'd have much success getting him to replace the bolt now that its all done :-D --- Ok, got fed up and called some Land Rover places in the UK -...

    New Freelander Feature - Rattle!

Right, got the car back - amazingly quiet and running very smoothly - so quite happy. Just a bit miffed that when i specifically asked the chap at the garage if he changed the crankshaft pulley bolt for a new one, he said no, they didn't have one / didn't arrive and that in his LR manual it...
