    HandyHelpfulHint4BettaDoorSeals

Not replying to my own post, just not starting unnecessasry threads! Assuming you have nippled-balljoints in your steering (and if you don't, Draper do a cheap and adequate tap kit and nipples are cheap and increase the life ofyour b/js lots and nipples are cheap (well, greasy ones seem to be...

    HandyHelpfulHint4BettaDoorSeals

Think a new category for mods may be an idea - easier ways to do jobs, effective upgrades, lateral thinking and cheap ideas that work for "making the LandRover Experience a joy" (how's that for a www.landyzone.co.uk slogan??) ;) Haven't ever seen anyone suggest this before but I've done it...

    Arctic Heater / Eberspacher?

Suggested this elsewhere but MkII Polo (82-92 ish) heater is excellent and contained in plastic unit incorporating 3spd fan. Mounting is simple and all that's needed is a little folding (metal) and poss. some heater flexipipe for mating it to Series vents. I haven't fitted one yet but thought...

    Hummer Vs. Land Rover

First off, I like Hummers (the original, not that new version based on the Ford Explorer (or whatever it is)) and have seen them doing some absolutely awesome stuff so I have no illusions(allusions?) as to what they're capable of. But they're designed to a totally different brief from the...

    Hummer Vs. Land Rover

99% of off-roading in UK is mummy parking on the pavement collecting Tarquin from 'prep'. As we have narrow pavements over here, Landrovers perform far better in such 'extreme' off-road conditions ;) As Britain is so much smaller than the US (but large enough for our egos, thanks ;))...

    Perkins Prima in 2a

Assuming 'box is in, after all that work you may as well just start it and see (w/o attaching propshafts). Flywheel bolts Loctited (always helps)?flywheel straight &not at an angle? Change all oils and filters.New engine/'box rubber mounts (while you're there). Speedo reattached? Check/ adjust...

Why a series Landy, why not something sensible, or at least relaible........

You buy a Landy and then make it reliable. I've never seen any other vehicle suffer the abuse I've subjected L/Rs to and still run. My own favourite is a Perkins 4203 Slll (with cracked chassis) that shunted my entire life around, is now missing both headlights, has a 'skywards-facing' bumper...

    Super fast series

100" 220bhp V8 '68 leafer. Lightened, balanced, excess weight removed(truckcab, no doorlocks, heater fan or sound-deadening) - clocked at oiro 120mph (speedo pointed at the"m" in "Smiths". Friend had '58 280bhp swb w/RRdiffs but he broke engine. So he got 300+bhp ex-Pilgrim Sumo 'modified'...

1982 RR doing very strange things

May be way out here but could it be a poor earth or other wiring fault? I'm no expert on wiring (I can rewire anything just don't pay me hourly or expect me to understand where all those electrons go! Know I've gone through several light switches (until I 'relayed' everything) and it may be on...

    series 3 engine\gearbox swap

Reply to both questions I have '68 (ex-mil) 100" with 220bhp through LT77s (think that's the right number- 4spd RR 'box with oil cooler take-off points) - slight play now in one front axle uj but that's to be expected after about 20,000m of abuse including fairly serious trialling, lots of fast...

Newbie to landie's wanting some help...

Will take photos after weekend. Son has friend visiting on Sat. (see photo gallery - life revolves around etc!) so hope this's soon enough. SWB IIa/early III best imho. Classic insurance works - I'm 32 (ish) but have several DD convictions (like "a bottle drunk is never wasted", "too many cooks...

SII V8....convert to Prima Perkins + new gearbox

Montego is front-wheel drive. simple answer is no (without major mods) Gearbox is (IIRC) Volkswagen 084/085 (or similar code) with internal diff. D/s flanges 6-bolt and nearly in line with 'rear' of engine (backplate) so loooong rear p/s, v.short front one. Do you know what 'box is in at the...

    gearbox trouble

If it's a II or III 'box, it shoud have a level plug on the back of the transfer boxnext to the h/b drum. Also earlier main 'boxes had filler on top & dipstick, later boxes had square-head filler(on lhs (and level plug)) on side.Square-head but 9/16 or 1/2 a/f should fit (IIRC) Should be 1.5l...

    General:

Oops - almost forgot - check lwb for bigger drums (better performance) - Santana disc conversion kit was lauded as excellent. At £500, suggest looking for a RR with sound chassis & running gear (and sh*t body for cheap price), cutting it down to 88" to fit and enjoying the luxury of coil...

    General:

Possibly one Rover flange and one Salisbury flange on end of halfshaft? Or maybe lengths different? Before removing studs, screw nut on before 'removing' (usually with hammer) from flange as you may want to re-use stud - screw nut face flush with end of threads (or very slightly proud) to...

SII V8....convert to Prima Perkins + new gearbox

www.integerspin.co.uk - conversion kit to fit prima to series box - no personal experience of plate but having spoken to gentleman (Richard)who makes them (well, gets them cast) and having seen pics, I'd give them a try. From talking to several people who used Prima diesel, if it's a swb then go...

    Discovery 300 Tdi 1997

Scatily-clad Playmates liberally scattered across the bonnet allowing you to eat chocolate eclairs out of their cleavages? I presume this wasn't a trick question (but it is always wishful thinking!) ? If it's to do with buying one, condition of chassis ( including no mud sitting on top of...

    gearbox trouble

I'll probably get flamed for this as my 'box identification is a little rusty. BUT isn't lt77 4sp from 'classic' RR? and LT77s same box with take-off points for oil cooler? Is R380 santana 'box? (manuals elsewhere at the moment). just been told lt230 santana box but that may be wrong too...
