    300 tdi starting problem

Thanks, I think I found it. Is it whats known as fuel stop solenoid? Its got a spade end wire coming off it. I tested that for live and Ive got power there. I also traced the click sound to a yellow solenoid in passenger footwell.I tested it for a circuit and could not get a reading from the...

    300 tdi starting problem

So it must be the circuit between the starter relay and the solenoid. Is it a common fault?

    300 tdi starting problem

Well after driving around all week without any problems I came to start this morning , turned the key and click!:(I have ran a multi-meter from the battery to the spade end that feeds the solenoid and dont seem to have a reading when I turn the ignition. Does this mean I have a ignition switch...

    300 tdi starting problem

Just an update, it was a bad earth. I ran a jump lead from starter direct to battery and it started so I cleaned the earth strap from starter to chassis. It was the chassis mounting that had failed . Happy now as no new parts needed:)

    300 tdi starting problem

The other day I went out to start the 94 auto disco and turned key lights came on dash and glow plugs but then just a click. Its done this before and I know its a common fault with the loose spade connector on the starter motor.I gave the wire a wriggle and tried again and still nothing then...

    Engine issues

Maybe its not as bad as we first thought. If oil is over filled then unscrew the sump plug just enough to let a trickle out and put a bowl under it.Just keep checking the dip stick until its right level then tighten the plug. Dont drive with over filled sump.

    Engine issues

Rev the engine and squeeze the turbo pipe from the intercooler. You should feel them go hard as the pressure builds up.This will tell you if the turbos working.

    Engine issues

It is possible the engine has been seriously overheated and has knackered it. If its got original rad they are well known to become blocked with age and the water just stops circulating. Also the water pump is very high on the engine so if the water level drops and you dont top up then the pump...

MOT good news / bad news

It was the first seal against the axle that was leaking. A mate of mine helped me do it in return for some work on his roof so only cost me the price of seals £8.00. Got a new MOT now but got a few laughs out of the mechanics when they saw my tail pipe that I had mended with a piece of old cast...

MOT good news / bad news

I just wondered if a blocked breather had caused the seal to fail. No point changing the hub seal if its going to do it again. Does anybody know the parts I will need to do the hub seal? Its a 94 300 tdi .

MOT good news / bad news

Well I took the wheel off and it looks like axle oil running down onto the inside of the tyre. I read that a blocked axle breather can cause this so I had a look and it looks rusty and looks like its not been cleaned out before [94 disco] Should I try to get the breather off and renew it or...

MOT good news / bad news

Took the old girl for mot and the bad news is she failed :( the good news is only on 3 small things :) Parking brake lever has no reserve travel, offside tyre has a cut deep enough to reach the ply cords, nearside brake disc contaminated with oil.I put two new rear calipers on a couple of years...
