Not sure you'll save any time to do it. The left hand one is easier (did just that on mine in about 30mins or so), but burger all space in there. At least if you've got the stereo and HEVAC out, you've got some space at the front, and less hassle swapping in and out of the multiplug than...

Sounds a reasonable assumption, but I'm not the one to say for sure. Fix the split and see what happens I guess :) Have you tried running it with the door open to see if the compressor turns itself off after 8-10 mins? at least that would tell you if its the storage side that has a problem...

nothing like a good set of airbags to play with :D plit in the pump hose won't help your compressor's life expectency, but shouldn't be causing the problem you have I don't think, I would've expected the NRVs to stop air going back out of the system to the compressor
