Bolt head / spline size calipers

Aye Up, Had this issue myself just recently, as bongo says a twelve point will fit but first clean as much crud off as you can then use the tightest fitting socket or spanner - I think that I found two metric that would fit a mil apart, one loosely the other with a bit of a light tap with a...

    Shock Absorber Advice Please

Aye Up Juke, Yeah I’m long familiar with the buy cheap/buy twice maxim and IME it is most often the case. In recent years however, globalisation and the way in which commerce now works (i.e. most manufacture is done in the Far East) means that the maxim is becoming less and less applicable. I...

    Shock Absorber Advice Please

Aye Up Juke, So you are stating the more expensive they are the better the quality?

Aye Up, I’ll take it that’s a no then. Wait-Out.

Howdy from down under (and slightly to the right)

Aye Up Steve, Welcome from the United Kingdom - Or perhaps more appropriate - the United Republic of Land Rovers! :-)

New Tyres - What about the spare?

Aye Up, I couldn’t bring myself to let some scroat even get away with thieving an old 750/16 on a steel rim off the back of my truck - try it and they’ll get fragged! And if they’re still breathing when I get back I’ll finish them off with some dodgy first aid.

    Shock Absorber Advice Please

Aye Up, Morning All, As the quest to upgrade my D1 continues I am looking into suspension components. The plan is a 2 inch lift on TF015 springs (already acquired) plus associated elements. There is much to do and budget constraints, so OME are out at the moment. I’ve done ‘due diligence’...

    V8 Exhaust Advice Required

PS I get yer point dieseldog - the rattling coming from the centre box area at the mo is a pitn and I’m either feathering the loud pedal to keep the revs below rattle point or gassing it to get quickly through it! Thankfully its not occurring at cruising speed.

    V8 Exhaust Advice Required

Aye Up, Yes Discool, I haven’t come across anything yet other than standard pipes and having helped to fit some recently they weren’t accurate over the rear axle. I’m going to have to sort a new y pipe with cats and from what I am reading a new centre box, followed by a pipe to the rear...

Thanks for that Discool, I will look into the janspeed system in due course. :-)

    V8 Exhaust Advice Required

Aye Up All, Renovation work continues on my ‘97 D1 V8 and which now has to include attention to the exhaust system. The whole system including lambdas looked fairly new on pre purchase inspection so I didn’t give it too much attention. It is presently fitted with what I thought were a...

Cruise Control - Checking Vac Components

Aye Up Juke, When the pump end cap is removed you can see the journal on the end of the motor shaft and the piston and it may have once had silicon grease on it perhaps but that would appear to be all. Out of interest, were you able to view the images that I posted with the OP?

    3.9 v8 (very) poor starting

Aye Up, I’ve been trying to follow the logic through on this one - Discool, you might be correct that there is probably a heat issue but reading the OP suggests that there is also a time issue - it fires up immediately if turned off then back on, if left for thirty minutes it needs cranking...

    Stepper Motor Question?

Thanks for that additional info Discool, very useful, I am getting a better idea of how the efi system works all the time. But is it relevant as to where the plunger on the stepper is when it is initially fitted or will the ecu adjust it appropriately no matter where it starts out?

    Stepper Motor Question?

Out of interest (and as an FNG on the site!) are there any members who were previously employed as fuel injection specialists, maybe even on D1s, or are currently employed in fuel injection? I was wondering whether some of the problems I’ve been reading about in some recent posts (i.e. DV8)...

    Stepper Motor Question?

Hmmm, I posed that question as I know someone with one that does hit 2k - that’s why I was wondering whether a new one needs the plunger to be set in a certain position before you stick it in the plenum. Come to think of it, back in the day of manual chokes I have no doubt that when starting on...

    Stepper Motor Question?

Aah, right-o, in that case job done. Would I then be right in saying that if the revs rose as high as 2k rpm, that would not be correct? I’m thinking of an initial cold start on a winters morning and oil circulation!

    Stepper Motor Question?

Aye Up Henry B, Thanks for the response That’s good to hear that mine now appears to be functioning correctly when starting from cold, and idling correctly when hot, but are you saying that when starting from hot the revs shouldn’t initially rise to 1200 as one does?

    Stepper Motor Question?

Aye Up, As part of a first in-depth service since I bought the v8 D1 (1997) back in April, I removed the stepper motor for inspection/cleaning the day before yesterday. It was very heavily carbon’d up. I cleaned all the muck off it, did the same with port that it screws into and then refitted...

Cruise Control - Checking Vac Components

The following is an easy procedure which I have followed to test the ‘mechanical’ elements of my cruise control system before I delve into the elektrickery side of things. Do a visual inspection of the vacuum pipes in the engine bay between the pump and the throttle control. Renew as...
