Aye Up Juke, When the pump end cap is removed you can see the journal on the end of the motor shaft and the piston and it may have once had silicon grease on it perhaps but that would appear to be all. Out of interest, were you able to view the images that I posted with the OP?

Aye Up, I’ve been trying to follow the logic through on this one - Discool, you might be correct that there is probably a heat issue but reading the OP suggests that there is also a time issue - it fires up immediately if turned off then back on, if left for thirty minutes it needs cranking...

Thanks for that additional info Discool, very useful, I am getting a better idea of how the efi system works all the time. But is it relevant as to where the plunger on the stepper is when it is initially fitted or will the ecu adjust it appropriately no matter where it starts out?
