    Freelander Alloys

That's the chappy...I haven't had cause to use them as yet but they have to be worth a look.

    high miles

I'd say you have had good fortune thus far; though, I personally, would look to replace the VCU and bearings sometime soon as a matter of course...That said my Td4 has done 137,000 miles and I think it was used for towing by it's previous owner(s). Bravo though!

As a fellow 'Hog' I'd cast my eyes in the direction of the west..I believe there is a Land Rover salvage place in Wiltshire...The Land Rover Orphanage or some such thing. Happy Hunting

    Wheel bearing or IRD?

Though I'm far, far away in a distant galaxy from being an expert the change of noise pitch does point toward a wheel bearing issue there old boy..The distinct symptoms of a pending IRD failure can be found in numerous old threads.. May the 'search' be with you...

    Fix or sell?

..Not exactly on the doorstep I realise, but I use Newbury 4x4 (01635 32028) and they know Land Rover inside out and backwards AND don't charge the earth. Failing that I think Keith Gott could be worth a call? Good luck

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Ah yes, an affliction I know all too well - solve one problem and three appear to take its place. Still; at least a refund/exchange is a possibility..

    Freelander drone

True enough - but the prop connection into the VCU is via a UJ and it's this one I'm having replaced. Apologies for misleading.

    clutch question

On a clutch related topic; my Freelander has very little travel from dipped to engaged - which is very near the carpet. The pressure required to use the clutch is still slight enough but there is an occasional 'notchy' feel when changing from first to second.. ..My first thought is a new...

    Freelander drone

Your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine (2001 ES Td4), droning, vibration between 60-70mph... I have changed the VCU and bearings, Rear Diff and all three Diff Mounts AND have swapped the front and rear tyres around - still the same and so she has gone ino my local specialist for UJ...

    Here we go again

At last - a positive and upbeat thread about Freelanders in the Freelander section - particularly a 1.8 k series - what ever next.. Three resounding huzzah's for that man!!

Oh no, not another tyre question.

It would be interesting to learn the outcome; keep us posted old boy.

    Cleaned my EGR and....

Would using a fuel additive like that Redex stuff have a similar effect upon keeping the channels gunk free...used at regular intervals over time?

Oh no, not another tyre question.

David, I'd suggest that any solution to this question is going to result in many scheckles being spilled from the coffers; but if it were my money I would probably do the following (having first taken the matches away from those wearing 'special mittens').. Fit two mid-range tyres to your...

    freelander wheel bearing

I know this may sound strange (no pun intended) but could you describe the whine i.e. - did it clearly come from one corner or another and did the noise change pitch when cornering in the same way an average car wheel bearing would do? The reason I ask is I'm trying to trace a noise and am...

Eminently sensible suggestion dear boy; thank you. All I need now is a multi-meter and a companion...!

    Single Wipe Function Kaput

A little niggling problem is causing me annoyance and I wondered if it is a common fault and another entry onto the 'live with it' list or if I'm being a bit of a plank... When pressing down the windscreen wiper stalk to engage a single wipe...nothing happens. If you press and hold it...the...

Bad Vibrations (Apologies to the Beach Boys)

Thanks Russ, but alas I tried that this weekend without any difference being made - I admit I was prompted by your post suggesting such when you were having such problems...I suppose I should have mentioned that!

Bad Vibrations (Apologies to the Beach Boys)

Gentlemen (and Ladies) I need your help, My 2001 Td4 ES has developed two annoying and potentially costly problems that I would welcome any useful advice/recommendations regarding: Problems 1. A constant droning coming from the drive train (I can't determine exactly where) 2. A nasty...
