dunno if the fuel solenoid can be anything other than open or closed,so if it was faulty the car would not run at all or cut out periodically. When you say Engine man. light, is it the little injector or the engine symbol? Dunno if yours has a MAF as it is a 96 but i would check that,as they do...

Try adding an extra earth lead from engine to body and check again. Worked wonders for my charging rate. ;)

Check the wiring from the B pillar to the door and take door card off and check wiring around door lock microswitch and outstation.N/s/f of course;)
