Stay away from Britpart. It's not a job you'll want to do too often, so get a decent make (Valeo/LUK/Borg&Beck etc.) and do it the once. Job's actually quite easy on a series, because you can take up the floor. If you've got an engine crane, you can support and move the box this way.

Isn't there 2 parts to the immobiliser though? One controlls the feed to the starter, the second the fuel to the engine. I've put in a length of wire to my starter from ignition switch because I was having issues, but the immobiliser is still used for the fuelling.

300tdi is an older design engine, but one that (for the most part) is devoid of any electronic control. It's reliable, strong, and easy to work on at home, so is ideal for alot of people. TD5 is electronically controlled, and harder to work on at home, although not impossible, even the electric...

Valeo are top quality components, and OE on alot of manufacturers too. Regarding the release bearing though, if you can, opt for a borg & beck bearing, they seem to be a bit more durable than Valeo/LUK ones. Keep the DMF, it's there for a reason, and is unlikely to cause a problem once it's...

If it's just a farm vehicle, then 300TDi. TD5 has its benefits though, and they sound quite nice with a few exhaust mods.

Any of the bigger main line suppliers are a safe bet. Valeo, BorgWarner, and LUK are all OE on quite a few vehicles. I tend to find that LUK offer a very good aftermarket warranty, so I'd have them as my pick of the bunch. Britpart clutches are (AFAIK) national clutches, which can be okay, but...

I had an MPi Discovery once. I personally didn't think it was as bad as some people make out. I think there's quite a lot of people that slate it on reputation alone, without ever having had experiences of one. Having said that ofcourse, it's not as suitable as a TDi.
