I had an MPi Discovery once. I personally didn't think it was as bad as some people make out.

I think there's quite a lot of people that slate it on reputation alone, without ever having had experiences of one.

Having said that ofcourse, it's not as suitable as a TDi.

Wasn't slating the engine as such, it wasn't bad for a car engine. But to fit it into a 2 and half ton Land Rover to improve performance? Doesn't seem worthwhile. I can't see how the Italian police thought it would be any better at catching those Ferrari/Lamborghini jobbies than a TDi. Why didn't they just go for a 4.2 with twin turbos?

I wasn't implying that YOU were slating the engine ;)

Just expressing my own experiences.

I guess atleast the engine doesn't have turbo lag.

probly return reasonable mpgs in a series tho? do they bolt to a s3 box, and are they 2 litres?, im on about the mpi engine in a disco btw, im guessing not many were made either cant spot any on fleebay, whats that engine reffered too ?

The only reason that 2.0L MPI's were put into Discoverys was to do with cheaper company car tax.
