Not as bad as my ordeal. I turned my defender off after a trip to the corner shop, next morning it was seized because of a broken conrod!

That's exactly why we need to know the rough size of the hole-cigarette sized ones are easily fixed.

As said before, if you want the tried and tested (though more expensive) one, definitely go for the safari. Though many hate the looks (myself included), they are probably the best snorkels money can buy.

How big is the hole? If the hole is too big to simply be "patched up", you may be able to get the seat reupholstered. Also, what year/series is you disco? If it is a series 1, or something you may be able to get a new (well) seat off evilbay cheaper than an reupholster job.

I'm sure the authorities could quite easily check your evilbay history, credit card, bank account etc, and find out if you had been selling loads of land rover parts or something?

Thanks for your replies everyone. So I towed it to the mechanic yesterday to have a look. He took one look at it and told me to come back in a few hours. So I did, and when I came back the news wasn't good. Apparently, one of the connecting rods had previously been replaced with a duff unit, and...

Turned it clockwise, and as I said, it won't crank with the starter connected either. I've had the head off and there is no foreign material in the cylinder. I wasn't exactly chavving around last time I used it so I can't see it being a blown engine...

Thanks for all your replies. Still not cranking without the glow plugs, so I took off the head and put some oil down the bores, as suggested. Still no luck. Is there anything else I can try before I tow it to a mechanic?
