One of the party tricks that impresses the kids is to walk across the floor in bare feet and then show them your heat signature on the floor. Brownie points for dad!

    Project Weatabix

I've seen much worse. Totally agree with b3nc123, probably time to learn a new skill. Try and find a mate with a welder who will help you out before you upset your Mrs even more by buying something else!!!!!!!

Insurance for 18yr old lad on a Disco???

My eldest lad has just joined the Army. He's 17 today, and he's saving up for a Td5 90 when he passes his test (which the Army will very kindly pay him to do!) He will be looking for insurance later on this year/beginning of next year, so any pointers would be useful. Ta

Interesting. I had quite a lot to do with these toys when I was in the Army. We were testing one one day, and at 300m we could tell that a FV432 moving across the field had a road wheel bearing that was running hot. Good fun.

    Front wheel bearing replacement.

You are of course correct. However, I think 'tightened with the tips of a large pair of grips' needs a bit of help. Unfortunately I don't know the correct torque setting for the inner locknut, but I am sure you will be able to help.

    axle serial numbers

I'm not sure what you're asking. The axles are standard to the model, with a few notable exceptions. So your D1 axle is the same as mine. Hope this helps.

    Front wheel bearing replacement.

If you look on fleabay you will almost certainly find a socket or spnner to fit. I did a few years ago. And it should be TIGHT.

    Can it be saved ??

You'll have fun doing it, you'll learn loads and save a shedload of pennies. Get decent quality replacement bits, get rid of all the rust, and it'll be as good as new!!!

Cant get my new UJ to fit

If its not too bad, you might get away with filing it out with a round file, as long as the circlip will fit. But long term, you will definitely need a new propshaft

    Front wheel bearing replacement.

+1. For the cost, I always use a new hub seal as the old one is probably shot.

Newbie - about to take the plunge ...

Its OK to leave the soundproofing and carpets out. As long as you've got some ear defenders!

Tyres for a smooth ride....or am I taking the @"%*

I think I'd agree with Dr Evil. Scorpions take some beating for road use and greenlaning.
