Had enough it's going on eBay

yes it looks like it's not the head gasket. So after spending a packet on other new components, only to fix the original misfire I now have a different problem, overheating and it looks like more than I expected and may be the cylinder head. So before I put it back together if anyone is...

    2.5d camchain tensioner retaining pin

Yippee, the head is off. The question now is how can I tell if it was really the gasket causing the water pressure ? The gasket is complete, no gaps or marks that are obvious. However there seems to have been some gasket cement used as there is white at one end and nowhere else...

    2.5d camchain tensioner retaining pin

 it snapped off, or rather about the top 1/2" has, the rest is stuck in the head. Actually this may not be so much of a problem as they aren't supposed to be that tight, not like the cylinder head bolts, so if I can't get it out I'll just leave it. BUT now I am having problems getting the...

    2.5d camchain tensioner retaining pin

Thanks. I used a small mirror to see into the inspection hole & locate the actual hole for the retaining pin. Now done. But now I can't get one of the 5 bolts securing the cylinder head to timing cover out. 4 came out easily, the fifth is very tight. The head of the nut is turning but not...

    2.5d camchain tensioner retaining pin

Hi Jonbill, thanks I have. There are a few mm movement, and the tension is removed, but the bottom of the lever (I am using the special tool) still seems to cover the hole where I need to put the pin in. In the link you sent it looks as though the lever rotates around the right hand retaining...

300tdi windows started to steam up

That's the strange thing, they are not damp. There is some damp in the back but I think the seal around the back door is leaking. The windows only steam up when the engine (& I suppose heater) starts to get warm. I think I might try a 'cheat' & get some Radweld today.

300tdi windows started to steam up

Lost some water from the header tank, but engine running fine. No mayo in oil, no extra pressure in header tank (or smell of exhaust - phew). But my windows have started to steam up. I guess it must be the heater matrix itself - does this sound likely ? Anyone had the same happen to them ...

    2.5d camchain tensioner retaining pin

Still haven't replaced my cylinder head gasket. well I have the proper tool at last to lever the tension from the camchain, but am unable to insert a pin in the hole to hold it back. It seems as though the lever does not move far enough as it does release the tension but not actually move...

    Second time start!?

Don't know about petrol as I have a diesel RR, but has a similar problem on a car a few years ago. Would cut out after a while. Stop & wait & it would be OK again for a short while. Turned out to be air vent hole in the fuel filler cap was blocked & causing a vacuum in the tank that would not...

Weird Alternator Problem - help please

Pete, it sounds as though the alternator has been thoroughly checked, so perhaps it is OK after all. You said 'I also tried running the car without the alternator drive belt in case the noise was coming from an adjacent component like the power steering pump, but the noise stopped' So...

2.5dse head gasket change - help please !

Brisca not sure about the size, but I found all you need is a big spanner on the nut, no need to touch the nuts on the pump itself. I actually used a very big adjustable that I have (it's about 2ft long). Just wack the spanner to the right & the big nut comes loose, you can then unscrew the...

2.5dse head gasket change - help please !

Thanks Wammers - sage advice as usual, the fan came off easily :) I will make sure TDC is locked. I expect I will be able to mark the cam & will take lots of photos as well just in case. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks again, Andy.

2.5dse head gasket change - help please !

well, I don't have special tools: timing pin LRT-12-108, or camshaft holding tool LRT-12-112, timing chain lever LRT-12-115, or tool LRT-12-114 to retain tensioner plunger But I have a very full workshop with all sorts of other tools collected over many years, so could probably make do as I...

2.5dse head gasket change - help please !

well at last I got around to doing the job, have almost dismantled but a bit stuck & need some advice. FIRST - how do you get the damn viscous coupling undone? I have the right size (big) spanner but how to stop it turning - I tried one suggestion of jamming a rag in there but it still turned...

    1994 300tdi wiper park switch

My windscreen wipers won't park in the proper place. In RAVE it mentions a park switch but does not say where it is. Is it an integral part of the wiper motor ? I have followed a few threads on this and there seems to be a difference of opinion. So if I do have one where can it be found ...

300tdi Diff Lock light stuck on

I have had this a few times and is was always cause by 'axle wind up'. It isn't the diff lock light but the diff lock itself that cannot release immediately. As someone said above go forward and back a few times and you should find it will release & the light will go off.

    Windscreen wipers wont park

The wipers on my 300TDI don't stop at the bottom of the screen - just anywhere at random. The wash cycle also stops at random on the screen, as does the intermittent wipe - so I can't use that. So I took the mechanism to bits & oiled all the links so it runs very smoothly now - but...
