at last my car is running again with new head. But using new stretch bolts and following the instructions in RAVE I first torqued the bolts down as instructed, then the 'undo by 180 degrees' completely loosened the head bolts then torqued up as described, then tighten by 90 degrees fairly...

It's in now. On removing I found there were 'prongs' on the bottom so obviously they needed to be located over some sort of bar. I just lined it up then pushed a bit harder and it went into place - phew :rolleyes:
