I've got corrosion and a patch needs welding on both sides near the rear seat belt mounts. I plan on removing the plates and welding a patch in there the re attaching the original plate to the new metal. Just wondering whether the weld needs to be seemless or I can spot weld in various places...

Check all your fluids. One has to have gone down at the rate that's coming out. It looks like automatic transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid or power steering fluid. I have no concept of your truck but it's red and thick so can't be much else. How is the fan driven?

My disco 1 has a heavy duty clutch in it with a high bite point. I'm anticipating changing it at some point but would like to know what brand to put in and whether it needs to be a special clutch for off roading?? James

Is it a pig of a job as mine will need doing in the not so distant future no doubt!! Is that a regular clutch or a heavy duty one?

Something that major should be noticable by a visual inspection by laying underneath. I'd advise sorting it asap as steering is quite important!!

Have you checked the furthest possible place away from where you dropped it? Its usually there...

I bought one!! A 300tdi not very rotten at all just a couple of tiny holes in rear wheel arches but solid chassis, body mounts, sills etc. Rear boot is like new. The chap I bought it off got it standard 2 years ago from someone he knew who had owned it 17 years. So 2 previous owners. 170k miles...

Well it's not for a while yet so not sure on that. But it will be a tight budget of no more that £2000. I don't mind buying something for cheap and doing a few repairs either.

I'm interested in buying a discovery. But I'd like to know what engine mileage is acceptable? And which engines tend to be the most reliable? Also Im thinking of buying one already kitted out with snorkel winch springs etc. Just after general advice really as I've got no idea on land rovers.
