    Compression Test Confused!?

There's no blow-by / pressurisation of the crank case when the engine is running hot or cold, so there can't be much in the way of compressed air + fuel getting past the rings I wouldn't have thought?

    Does mine have this???

Nope, stuck a 200tdi in. How the hell did this thread get brought back up!?

    Oh bollocks!

What effect would this have on the running of the engine / tickover just out of interest?

    Compression Test Confused!?

I will have a go at leak testing it this weekend all being well. As for trying a wet compression test, I didn't do that because I determined that the gauge was fooked on a dry test. It's the same principle with a diesel as it is a petrol engine when doing a wet test except you would usually just...

    Compression Test Confused!?

I'm thinking a leakage test next to see whether or not air is escaping down the intake / exhaust manifold. There is very little blow-by.

    Compression Test Confused!?

Hi James. That was the highest pressure shown on the gauge over a period of about ten seconds per bore without oil. It stayed at that pressure for about five seconds out of the ten but as soon as the engine stopped turning, the gauge would take about 3.5 seconds to return to nil. Is this right...

    Compression Test Confused!?

Hello, I have just run a compression test on my 200tdi (to try and find the cause of the lumpy idle / white / blue smoke on startup) and I am not happy or convinced with the results. The gauge showed bang on 220PSI on each bore. This is massively down on compression and I find it very strange...

    Wheel Spacers?

Hello, Was there someone on here who had started to turn / manufacture their own wheel spacers and if so, could you let me know who it was please? I would like to widen the stance of my 90 a little. Also, would fitting deep dish modulars have the same effect? I just want to bring the wheels out...

    Compression Tester?

I'd send it back to you via Royal mail recorded or the likes :D How exactly does a compression tester work in comparison to a leakage tester? I understand the general principle but is it just a matter of solenoid feed off, glow plugs out, compression tester in and then turn engine over for ten...

    Compression Tester?

Hello, Does anybody have a compression tester with an adapter that will fit a 200tdi glow plug hole that I can borrow please? I am finding it hard to get hold of one or find a garage / specialist locally who has one. Thanks, -Tom

    WOLF Air Filter Installed

If it is the blue silicone ducting you are referring to, this is the stuff: Blue Silicone Ducting - Air Ductings AP Motor Store It is a wire re-enforced CAF (cold air feed) pipe and is priced per metre. There are cheaper alternatives which would work but this is durable stuff. Bear in mind that...

I didn't really think I'd have done it before christmas but all the bits arrived, so I got on with it :D

    90 200TDI producing clouds of white/grey smoke

If it's not loosing any water, it definitely sounds like a timing problem to me. With the compressions all up and relatively uniform and with the smoke not stopping as you work across the pots, loosening each injector; the timing becomes the next most plausible cause. It is easy to check that...

    Bent Push Rod

Nooo, it was straight when I did the head gasket last year, I checked them :) -Tom

    Bent Push Rod

Good question! As far as I am aware I did yes. I work on the principle of having piston no.1 at top dead centre, so both valves are rocking and then I move to cylinder 3..4,2. Rule of 9 works best but I didn't use it last time. I will be giving them another look over. Thanks, -Tom

    Bent Push Rod

I know, it's had me scratching my head for months  I think the most logical step would be to do both a compression test and a leakage test. At least then, if there are any problems internal to the engine, I can single out the cylinder(s) at fault and tackle the problem directly. Of course...

    WOLF Air Filter Installed

Thank you :) The catch tank just came from ebay, I think it cost about £15. They can be made very easily and some of the better ones have baffle plates in them to help separate the oil from the vapours. The pot I've got is just a big empty space but it works on the principle of cooling and...

    WOLF Air Filter Installed

Nooope. They're all fine. They aren't really needed until it's well below freezing, unless of course your engine is buggered. -Tom

    WOLF Air Filter Installed

Thanks Mr. Haze. Yes, I got my injectors sorted and it has restored the lost power but it has not yet solved the misfire problem and blue / white smoke on a cold startup. I am going to be examining the rocker shaft / rockers, push rods, cam followers etc. next week and if there is nothing...
