lack of grunt..until I stalled it...

Could be a number of things - the fact that it "corrected" its self or showed signs of improvement after a restart would suggest something electrical, maybe crank position sensor / cam shaft position sensor, faulty MAF etc. A faulty EGR valve which is stuck open would also give similar kind of...

    200tdi, with 300tdi head??

You are quite right. The combustion chamber in the piston crown of a 200tdi is more offset than that of the more central combustion chamber found in a 300tdi piston, so if fitting a 300tdi head to a 200tdi block, you will also need to replace the piston heads to suit the 300tdi injectors along...

    200tdi tuning

A standard width uprated intercooler would make a noticeable difference without necessarily having to mess about with boost / fuelling because the air flow through the intercooler and the overall volume is improved but not excessive. The problem is, they're not far off the cost off a full width...

    200tdi tuning

It's one of those questions that has arguments for both yes and no. From personal experience, everyone that I have ever met who has installed a full size intercooler has spoken very well of the upgrade, often remarking on how much better the Land Rover pulls through all the gears, particularly...

Air cyclone to filter pipe breathing heavily.

Very common, pretty much every 4 stroke engine on earth does it, even more so in turbo charged diesel engines where the compression in cylinders is considerably higher than that in petrols. In most cases it is simply compressed fuel & air escaping past the piston rings or through the piston ring...

Overdid it a bit? 300tdi conked out on motorway

Check the connection where the 12v feed connects to the stop solenoid on your injection pump. If the wire is broken or the connection is loose, it will intermittently break the circuit forcing the stop solenoid to close, ultimately cutting all fuel to your engine.

    1986 LR 90 advice please

Welcome to the forum. If you look at the centre of the rear cross member you will notice an array of predrilled holes. As previously suggested, a Dixon Bate adjustable towing setup bolts to the crossmember, with two struts that then travel back underneath the vehicle towards the opposite...

Starting a 19J that has stood for a coupe of years

Give it a good 30 seconds or so on the glow plugs. If it has a glow plug timer installed, give it two or three cycles. Do NOT touch the throttle peddle whilst you are cranking the engine. The injection pump has a cold start mechanism that advances the injection timing and over-fuels for cold...

Question about steering after a bump...

Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking along the same kind of lines. I think I will have the new track rod installed, I had one in the back of the motor just in case they needed it anyhow. I had a bit of a prod and poke around earlier this evening and so far I have found that the ball joint...

Question about steering after a bump...

Hello, Sods law isn't it... I was out and about playing in the snow without a hitch but yesterday a spot of black ice on a 90 degree bend near my house sent me straight into the curb at about 30mph. When I set off again, my steering wheel was 45 degrees out of line (pointing to the left) and my...

    Dashboard LED's?

Haha, well it would seem that I **** off some old grump or get into trouble every time I post something :D You're spot on there, I've been out of uni a year and a half now, been doing this job for just over a year and used a good 2/3 of my holiday attending interviews etc. I've had two promises...

    Dashboard LED's?

That looks alright :) I've just ordered some green T10's. I like the green, compliments my new head unit too. I swapped the old bulbs for SMD's in my old 90 but I wasn't sure as to whether or not they swapped the bulb holders or anything daft like that in the ten year gap.

    Dashboard LED's?

Hellooo :D No I'm still here, just lingering in the bushes at the moment. I sold my 90 and bought a 300tdi 110 which thus far (touch wood...) has been absolutely trouble free  I've also been spending my nights trying to get a job relating to my design degree but I'm not having much look...

    Oil filter stuck.. faacin el

I can't be arsed to read through all the pages, so assuming you've still not got any further, why don't you just unbolt the entire filter housing from the block (2 bolts?) and then stick the canister in a vice and tap the housing around with a nylon hammer to split the two?
