    I got told the exact same info about earthing via a 510ohm resistor too. wire can be found at the white/clear multi plug under the drivers side dash by the pedals. might be worth just trying to cut the wire so it can be rejoined after.

    The switch does stop it from being started in any gear apart from N or P but i spoke to mark adams about it awhile ago and he said they can still work but give a poor signal to the ecu. Might be worth searching for a 2nd one if you can't find any other problems

    I'm thinking possible worn cam too. His doesn't seem to pull too well but i'm used to my slightly modded 3.9. Might have to break out the dti gauge and see what valve lift it's getting!

    Kev, compression test was done, all around was al within 135-140 psi got the right trim value on the maf and air flow voltage also seems right not tired another ecu yet but will do soon non cat car timing was checked and was at 10btdc and went up fairly smoothlt to just over 30 all in at 3200rpm...

    Gear inhibitor switch, i'd put 20p on it being that! When you put it in D or R the inhibitor switch tells the ecu that the engine is coming under more load and that it should up the revs to keep it from stalling under the extra load of it being in gear. If this isn't working right it could...

    Mates got a disco of a fine 1990 vintage with a 3.5 running petrol an on lpg. It's started to run super duper black smokin' rich! And has a small missfire. So far swapped the coolant temp sensor m.a.f tps checked timing fuel pressure regulator plugs and leads... ...it's running richer...

    V8 Disco won't start...

    There's fuel at the injectors...but are they injecting? If they arent and you have spark it could be the little inline resistor in the wiring to from the coil to the ecu. If this is disconnected then the ecu doesn't get the signal from the dizzy telling it to inject.

    I swapped 24 spline into 10 spline axle, had to change the stub axle as the bearings were a different size!

    Well...the engine is ruined!! The head got taken off to reveal pretty knackered bores. If you fill the bores a little with light oil it very quickly run straigt past the rings. Looks like that may be why it had been layed up for 3 years!! Anyone got a defender 200tdi lump?

    Ok so it's not stop solenoid...took it out and removed the plunger so it should run until its stalled, still rubbish. Tried more tonight, the cone the rides up and down with the diaphragm eventually came out and was covered in sludgy rusty looking cack! Cleaned it all up and made sure the pin...

    Checked the stop solenoid and that was working ok, it turned out to be the diaphragm under the cap of the injector pump was stuck solid. So im guessing that as it revved it was unable to move so not increasing the amount of fuel delivered. It was well and truly seized up so it looks like its...

    No didn't use that, managed to work out it wasn't needed, I pumped the lift pump until only diesel flowed from the bleed screw on the filter housing. Could a sticky or stuck stop solonoid cause hard starting, lack of power and cutting out when the revs drop after ring revved on idle?
