Could it be the bearing for the input flange on the diff? My mates disco had similar symptoms, and it turned out the bearing was FUBAR. I'd still do the a-frame ball joint and bushes first though, worth eliminating that issue so you can be sure! :)

Those GMB recovery eyes are rather expensive! I've got a couple of 'D' rings on the front of my landy. Cost me £20 for the pair. Although I do like the look of the ones linked. If you're not bothered about price, go for em! Just make sure that they are fitted correctly, I've seen a two towbars...
