    Fuel Pumps...

Yep - sods law... Luckily I had the other car with me, so went back and picked up the trailer. Had to endure about 2 hours of 'why doesn't anyone elses car break down in the woods' and 'maybe you should have bought a defender instead' from my better half though ;)

    Fuel Pumps...

Just taken it all apart again, checked everywhere for blockages, put everything back together and now it's running fine... Not entirely sure what's going on but it looks like the pumps ok!

    Fuel Pumps...

When I swapped engines about 2 months ago we put a new fuel pump on as the old one was shot - it wasn't a britpart one, allmakes 4x4 instead (but was still cheap). About 500 yards into the wood at a pay and play site yesterday it conked out - I don't appear to have more than a dribble to the...

Anyone near a series with a tape measure? V. quick help needed!

Mine doesn't appear to havet the spreader plate, but does seem to have the internal tubes. I didn't realise there should have been anything there until reading something about needing it for heavy duty towing, but it doesn't appear to be available separately. It doesn't feel like there would be...

OK - cheers for that - good to know it's not needed!

Off Road / Green Lane Tyre Choices..

Cheers for the info. I did wonder if it would put a lot of strain on the rest of the drivetrain... Typically, I missed a set of Insa Traction Tracks in the right size (235) - set of five brand new ones went for £260 :(

Anyone near a series with a tape measure? V. quick help needed!

The box section of the rear crossmember is about 3" on mine too - not including the lip underneath it. Mike - does your towbar have the extra reinforcing plate behind the crossmember? I'd be interested to know as I removed the drop plate from mine so now the ball hitch is directly on the...

Off Road / Green Lane Tyre Choices..

Bit of an update to this - changed the master cylinder and all is well with the brakes again. Although it turned out that someone had previously fitted a Cortina master cylinder complete with different size and thread unions, so no end of faffing about sourcing the right unions to make new pipes...

Horrible Noise when slowing down / braking

Mine does the same - and is lifted too. I took the rear prop out and it stopped doing it, so it's either the prop grumbling due to angles (even with new UJs) or something in the transfer/gearbox complaining. The previous owner had the prop lined up wrong (wrong phasing) which didn't help -...

Fitting Front Recovery Points - Holes Don't Line Up...

OK - thanks for that - should the 'tab' on the series bumper be longer - looks a bit iffy trying to drill through the weld!

Fitting Front Recovery Points - Holes Don't Line Up...

Hi, I bought some front recovery loops a while back to put on the front of my series 3 - I went to fit them over the weekend but it seems the holes don't line up (the dumb iron set of holes are the correct spacing though): When it came, it was fitted with a bullbar that was only bolted in on...

    Future4x4 / Avon Dassett, Sunday 19th...

Cool - thanks for the info :) I need to fix the brakes on mine, but I'll hopefully get that sorted tonight or tomorrow, so all being well I'll head up there on Sunday :)

    Future4x4 / Avon Dassett, Sunday 19th...

Hi, I'm thinking of taking my series 3 up to Avon Dassett this weekend on one of their pay and play days... Is it a decent site for a relative newbie to go to? :) I had a look through their gallery early on and it seems there's loads of water (bad for a petrol with no snorkel!) and steep bits...

Off Road / Green Lane Tyre Choices..

Cheers. I can live with that :) I'll probably get some modulars when I get them - will look better than tatty White 5 spokes! :) One other thing - how does it affect the gearing? It's already pretty low geared as it is, it's now got a 2.5 defender petrol engine in it so goes pretty well.. Do...

Off Road / Green Lane Tyre Choices..

Wheel cylinders were changed when I got it, so they should be ok (although they did come out of the dreaded blue boxes)... Randomly the pedal won't feel right, then occasionally it'll drop to the floor, give it a pump and the pedal comes back..

Off Road / Green Lane Tyre Choices..

Thanks for the replies.. I really don't want to start chopping arches etc if possible (yet! ;-)) Just how bad are something like special tracks on the road? Noise isn't an issue - at 50mph it's impossible to hear anything over rattles and engine noise - tyre noise will be drowned right out ;-)...

Off Road / Green Lane Tyre Choices..

Hi, Hopefully this isn't the usual "what's the largest tyres I can fit" thread - I've searched and it seems the common answer is 265x75x16s, if you use modular/aftermarket rims... So - with that tyre size in mind, what pattern/brand would you recommend for a S3 SWB, with parabolics and LWB...

Screwfix or a local farmers merchant is probably the best place for EP90 :)

    Water in Sump...

I've just drained the oil, flushed it through with some white spirit and refilled - main problem I can see is that as there doesn't appear to be any oil pressure the oil's not getting round to clean the crap out (and lube stuff that needs to be). I might try starting it up again in a bit see if...

    Water in Sump...

I think it's a bit more terminal than that :( The filter was full of emulsion too, so it's definitely been pumped round the system - and from the sounds of the knocking I'd say it's dropped more than a couple of bearings :( If the old engine requires any sort of machine work (crank polish...
