Oxford, ish...
When I swapped engines about 2 months ago we put a new fuel pump on as the old one was shot - it wasn't a britpart one, allmakes 4x4 instead (but was still cheap).

About 500 yards into the wood at a pay and play site yesterday it conked out - I don't appear to have more than a dribble to the carb... Sediment bowl appears to be clear and full of fuel, and pumping the prime handle on the pump would get it to splutter, then it would die again.

So - it looks like the new fuel pump has died. Have I just been unlucky - are the cheapy fuel pumps known to be crap, or am I better off getting a genuine one and keeping the warranty replacement one as a spare?

Getting hacked off with it now - it's missed 3 days out due to breaking down - first the master cylinder, then a blocked carb, now the fuel pump :(

Have you made certain that the filter on the bottom of the pickup pipe in tank is not blocked , it cant push fuel out if it cant pull it in ! Have you got insulation block between pump and block?, not sucking air on inlet side of pump ? Just a few quick thoughts HTSH

Just taken it all apart again, checked everywhere for blockages, put everything back together and now it's running fine... Not entirely sure what's going on but it looks like the pumps ok!

Yep - sods law...

Luckily I had the other car with me, so went back and picked up the trailer. Had to endure about 2 hours of 'why doesn't anyone elses car break down in the woods' and 'maybe you should have bought a defender instead' from my better half though ;)

Be worth checking that tank filter just the same. There may be crud that fell off the filter on the way home just wating to block it up again.
