HELP! TD5 Injector seals this evening. Gone t*ts up

Hi guys I'm going to update this thread and highlight my stupidity, but hopefully it will help someone else.. The error I made was, I adjusted the rocker adjusters similar to how you would set tappets. So I just tightened the adjusting screw untill it touched the injector and then back one...

HELP! TD5 Injector seals this evening. Gone t*ts up

Another thing I didnt do.. i pulled the pipe off the FPR before I started, but not off the fuel cooler as it couldnt get to it. Could that be the reason?

HELP! TD5 Injector seals this evening. Gone t*ts up

Evening all I stupidly braved the cold this evening and tackled the injector seals on my 2000 td5. Now it's all back together and running like a bag of spanners. Plooms of white smoke and alot of knocking. Maybe a cylinder down. Starts on button though When undoing the rocker shaft, I went in...

Safari to Puma rear door swap

I've just acquired a puma rear door to change my very tired safari door on my 90. I've done lots of search and I'm unsure which bits will fit off my old door. Obviously I'm aware the glass and door card is different. But what about the wiper motor and all the locking mechanism? If anyone has...

    TD5 cruising speed noise/dissapointment

Right guys. I'm running 235/85/16 and measured with the Satnav on my phone is does seem to be better than I thought. 70 to 80 is possible. The centre silencer removal pipe has got to go, and driving without a front prop is vile, so much backlash. I took it too a local land rover Indy today...

    TD5 cruising speed noise/dissapointment

Fetched the front prop off tonight and going to see how it drives without it tomorrow. Bearing is deffo spinning in the yoke so I'm guessing that propshaft is scrap then? To add to the list of niggles. It wouldnt start just, like the starter was sticking. It sort of only wanted to do half a...

    TD5 cruising speed noise/dissapointment

Thanks everyone. Good info and tips. Funny enough the bonnet is rubbing on the wing, so will look into that. I've noticed that the furthest front propshaft UJ, the bearings in the yoke seem shiny silver where the circlip sits? I'm guessing the bearings are spinning in the yoke, could this be...

    TD5 cruising speed noise/dissapointment

That's not really the point. I'm on my 3rd defender and more than happy with their characteristics. However theres a limit, and the TD5 is capable of cruising at motorway speeds. So that's what I'm after!

    TD5 cruising speed noise/dissapointment

Hi I've been ticking off the jobs on my recently purchased 2000 defender 90 and its slowly improving. It has been sat for a good few years, and ran like a bag on spanners when I first drove it home. Anyway, it pulls so well bottom and mid range, I cant fault it in the slightest. But anything...

Coolant flush additives. Good or bad?

As title guys, are they good or more harm than good? Td5 is due a flush, so any tips to get at that bottom hose welcomed.

    Genuine filter vs Mann

Interesting. It's usually a brand like mann, hengst or mehle that make them for the vehicle manufacturer anyway. I spose they are just made to different specs

Should I do the head dowels/gasket?!

Thanks everyone. Seems some of my poor running is down to air in the fuel. As when its purged it runs better. Anyway, no mate my bolt was not thread locked either, however it wasnt lose. Glad I did it for piece of mind. Although I dont think I would do the job again, it was evil with the...

New to TD5 ownership, some queries?

Thanks everyone for your help. You all state they fire up without plugs, so I spose me waiting for the light to go out and the glow plugs being duff isnt the issue. Previous owner fitted a fuel filter housing and new filter I'm told. It does look fresh with new brass fittings to be honest...

Should I do the head dowels/gasket?!

Thanks chaps. To be honest it seems like I spoke too soon, as you may have noticed from my post in the defender section. It's taking a long time to start from cold, so I need to sort that. Will take your advice though guys, quite a relief not having to do it really haha

New to TD5 ownership, some queries?

Hi all Been a while since I've owned a land rover, and I'm back again this time with a 2000 td5 10p engine with 95k on the clock and have some questions that I'm unsure of. 1. Is it normal for the temp gauge to sit below half, like it's just past a 1/3rd never any more? 2. The glowplug light...

Should I do the head dowels/gasket?!

Thanks alot guys. It was running like cr*p when I bought it, but ticked a few jobs off and it's much better. I'm more than happy to leave it, my concern is the head shifting on the plastic dowels and causing big expense and damaging the head. Only leak I have got is from the FPR I think.

Should I do the head dowels/gasket?!

Hi All Its been a long while since I had a defender. Anyway, back here again and hoping you experts can help me. I've got a 2000 90 TD5, with the 10p engine which has 95k miles on the clock. It has been running rough but a new injector loom and freeing off the waste gate has helped a load...

    300tdi overheating

Yes, bolt on to the chassis between the inside rail and the seat transferbox IIRC with a pretty poor 'P' clip crimped to the rail, then at the end earths to the transfer Box. Same thing has happened with all four land rovers Ive come across of a similar age, it's really worth ruling it out...
