Sounds like crank position sensor to me. it's the only one on the TD5 that doesnt have a back up value stored in the ECU and the only one that will stop it from starting (if it packs up)

Tuned engine files are locked and cant be put on another car (unless you are good at cracking protected files!!) other wise they would be all over flebay for £3.99

First things i would check would be header tank cap (is it letting air in) and check for leaks in the rest of the cooling system (mates Audi had a very small leak in the rad which caused water to p1ss out the header tank)

Garage has said that the fluid is shot and has some contamination, so it's going to be flushed out, filter change etc to see if that solves the overheating

i've had the same today except not under load (just me in the car and not towing owt). when the temp light came on the disco struggled to pull away at junctions etc and was vibrating like mad. Going to get it into an indi this week to have the oil and filters changed to see if it sorts it

No, injectors are still the same old ones! going to replace the car in the next couple of months for a nice 03 plate (from a mate so i know it runs fine!!) Just would be interested in finding out whats up with my one as it's been bugging me for the lasst couple of years!

Given up with the gear box issue as it's not done it since. Have been looking at nanocom outputs and have noticed that i'm getting readings for a 3 track throttle. I thought all pre 2002 TD5's had a 2 track throttle? Also, it thinks it's in low range when it's high. How can this be sorted?

had a look and cant see any splits/holes in those

EGR is blanked, and filter is clean (K&N). Must admit, the turbo whistle does sounds louder than before (but put that down to the k&N)

My Disco TD5 feels like it down on power and when under load (going up hills etc) it chucks out loads of black smoke (you can hardly see anthing behind the car!). It's got a new air flow meter and turbo hoses. what else could be causing this?

what are the symptoms of a naff temp sensor? can the resistance be checked using a meter? mine has a habbit of being gutless one min and then power comes back

Think my vac pump is knacked - making thumping/tapping noise, oil leak and brakes are not firm unless pumped a couple of times. Is it possible to just replace the vac pump on a TD5 or do you have to do the alternator as well?

never had any problems with paddocks spares. just dont go there on a sat morning cause the parts dept is full of bl00dy land rover owners getting parts for the weekend repair jobs!!:p:p

box will take about 4.5ltr as part of a change. have a look at www.discovery2.co.uk / Automatic Gearbox Oil and Filter Change which explains the process. is this how you did it?

what did you do as part of the service? did you change the box oil?
