    track rod end

Maybe not, the taper on the track rod end should always be a tight fit in the steering arm and stop the track rod end turning hence allow the nut to be removed. In your case as it loose you will need to clamp the track rod end into the steering arm taper before you undo the nut, to stop it...

    Steering wheel violent feedback!

Hi Jim ref the pre load increasing is the target figure You are working too with or without the big oil seal in place, I noticed the rave manual for my abs car gives the figure without the seal, the force might vary quite a bit with oil seal in place depending on the state Eg cleanliness of the...

    Another leaky disco

Similar to the above I had same leak and fixed by removing the wing and sealing the vertical joint between the inner wing and door post paying particular attention to where the horizantal box section That reinforces the inner wing crosses the post seam. It seems water runs down inside the post...

    Pressure in oil cooler lines?

Hi Stuart, I got quoted $100 for new hoses to be swaged on but will see tomorrow how the supplier has done the job when I pick them up. I removed the old hose (pita job) to save some dollars and was surprised to find the fittings are smooth thin wall pipe no serrations where the hose fits over...

    ABS Fault

I've been through an abs issue 96 300tdi so can help. Ask away. I used the odbc plug 5/15 pin method and found the faulty wheel, tried pushing the sensor in but only worked for a while until hitting a curb or similar then same symptoms as you, abs kicking at low speed when no skid, bought swivel...

    Pressure in oil cooler lines?

Hi discomania, I'll be fitting new o rings, it wasn't leaking at the joints as far as i could tell but it only had 3 rings not the regulation 4. If no one knows the pressure I'll rig something up to measure it.

    Pressure in oil cooler lines?

Ricc it would not be bodge if there is no significant pressure my hilux surf has clips that are not even as good as jubilee clips on it's oil cooler as standard. Clips $4, new hose crimped on over $200. But if James confirms there's 60psi in the hose I'll not be using jubilee clips!

    Pressure in oil cooler lines?

Thanks James, do these hoses get full engine pressure then? If so I'll pass that info to a local hose company and get them made here, prob better doing that than going britpart or similar. The ones fitted are Oem, labelled dn12 Dunlop hoses and have a metal tag dated 1996 so they have lasted...

    Pressure in oil cooler lines?

Thanks James I'll give the clips a go and get new hoses later when I do a big order on a uk supplier maybe. On another LR forum a poster said there was 50psi in the hoses eg full big end pressure which I found hard to believe a "normal" type cooler could take hence my question. I would have...

    Pressure in oil cooler lines?

Engine oil is dripping very slowly onto the steering box and it failed it's test with suspected leaking box. Cleaned up it will pass though, a relief as new boxes don't come cheap. To fix the leak anyway, I've got the 2 hoses off and can slightly twist the hoses inside the crimped fittings...

Britpart or really sh1 t part?

Brit part swivel pins and bushes for abs 300tdi i bought from dingocroft were no good, expensive mistake as they were flown from uk to nz, won't use them again and will put "no Brit part crap" on all my orders from now on.

96 300tdi Disco top swivel pin clearance

Hi James, I'm gutted it took a month to get the parts and the freight to nz and back if they are no good costs almost as much as the parts. I could of bought aftermarket swivel kits much cheaper from paddocks but I mistakenly thought dingocroft supplied purely oem landrover parts, so this sort...

96 300tdi Disco top swivel pin clearance

Hi Whatty, thanks for the info. I've not a problem with the pre load I just put in shims until it was free to turn without the oil seal and cv shaft fitted then took out 012" of shims and that seemed to give the right sort of stiffness turning. Rave says the pre load is 0.25mm to 0.3mm (012")...

96 300tdi Disco top swivel pin clearance

Just noticed the pins are in boxes marked Brit part, the oil seals marked with a spanish seal manufacturer brand something like connetex does this mean they are not original land rover parts?

96 300tdi Disco top swivel pin clearance

Hi James the parts are from dingocroft who I only thought sold oem parts but I'm not sure on that but they weren't THAT cheap....the pin is a loose in the bush but I measured the parts accurately anyway, the new pin is only 002 thou smaller than the old worn one so I guess if a part is incorrect...

96 300tdi Disco top swivel pin clearance

I've bought new swivel kits from dingocroft but the top swivel which is bush not taper bearing (cos it's got ABS) I've noticed has 005" clearance which seems a lot for a new bearing. The new top pin is 1.220 OD and the new bush once pressed into the swivel housing is 1.225 ID Whilst messing...

Should I just get shut of it???

If you want to tow forget older hilux surf diesels, I've got a 94 3L TD one with 1kzte engine and it's for sale as they overheat and spending $$$$ on better rads etc is not always the answer and you constantly fear the head will crack. They all crack eventually. Petrol surfs drink fuel. Older...

got it thru the mot in the end

If it makes you feel better we are worse off here in nz, it's wofs every 6 months here and if welding is deemed structural by the tester the job has to be "certified" afterwards And before it will pass a retest and by someone qualified to certify all of which costs lots if dollars and the...

Swivel pins, will someone give me a sane answer.

Not meaning to go off topic but I suspect the reason mine has a pin that wears is the abs and yes the non abs has 2 swivel roller bearings but mine just one plus a Plain/bush bearing and a roller thrust bearing

Swivel pins, will someone give me a sane answer.

Well the top pin off my car is worn and so is the bush it fits into but I'm only replacing the pin which should be fine as I could not detect any shake in the wheel anyway In my earlier post which was meant to answer the first post I did not mean to ask a question in my case it was Just the abs...
