New Hippo owner with a smokey TD4

Try cleaning the MAP sensor, youl find this on a search. You will need to remove the inlet manifold to access it as its on the underside. The total MAF signal also depends on an input from the MAP however by disconnecting the MAF you over-ride both. Worth a shot. Hope you get sorted.

    Tailgate interchangeability…?

Ive seen some listed on fleabay that state they will fit right through the model years of fl1. The reason im looking is I had exactly the same problem as you, mine is currently sporting a liquid metal repair. Couldnt believe how bad it was when I took handle off to repair the "small" hole just...

This is leaking, what is it please.

Im pretty sure if you zoom in on that pic you can see that its the pipe the the left hand side of the ACE actuator. The rest of the pipe looks in reasonable nick. Is therea place close to you who make up hydraulic hoses? Your easiest fix would be a short hydraulic hose with 10mm compression...

    MOT time again...blue sidelights anyone?

Im pretty sure mine passed last time one bulb down which I noticed after test. Guessin most would probably be happy as long as there is a light on each side. Open to argument but would guess on lenses a cracked lens would be advisory and any lens defect that allowed white light to shine through...

Then take the exhaust off, sounds like youve tried everything to make sure it can breath in but maybe cant breath out?? Or does the quantity of smoke suggest otherwise?

Push for old diesels to be scrapped.

Laughable, the number of newish diesels I have seen on the road, normally pick-ups, chelsea tractors all smoke like **** when they accelerate. Probably enough to cancel out their periods of low emmissions. My old td5 never gives so much as a whiff of smoke.

    MOT time again...blue sidelights anyone?

Seriously, they put it on there. To be honest with the advisory system I dont give a hoot, its amazing how as discool has stated that things that were advisorys are forgotten the next year and issues that have existed for years suddenly get picked up. As long as they dont fail it for something...

    Problem Disco TD5 2003

Looks like that pump needs replacing again mate if thars coolant that can be seen leaking through the power steering pump drive. When fitting a new pump the rubber gaskets could easily be slightly moved out of position. As someone had already suggested, get a good quality OEM pump. It loojs from...

This sounds like a choked crankcase breather filter located under the air filter casing. Do a searchand youl find plenty info on here. Its cheap to buy a replacement and approx 30 mins to do. You can go for changing to the upgraded breather by bmw which means you no longer have to change the...

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

I thought exactly the same when I seen the price...must be a reason to keep it secret. It does definetly look the sort of thing that would be fitted for a health check and then removed again. Probably only any use in the hands of a place like bell engineering.

You definetely change all of the intercooler hoses, even the little short one?? Maybe your air intake not quite assembled correctly after changing maf?

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

We use very similar gizmos but on a much larger scale on large ships. Torque can be measured by a strain gauge set up fixed on shaft. Lasers may also be used to check distortion/ twisting of the shaft due to transmitted torque. Actually pretty straight forward, the more complicated part can be...

    Completely and utterly flabbergasted

Did you fill your new fuel filter up with fuel before fitting it? Silly question I hope but if you didnt it would explain your stall after a few minutes, once the slug of air reached the injectors. There is a procedure in owners manual for purging system through to injectors which involves...
