Zero power when towing horse trailer?

+1 .....feels like towing a trailer even without one on.....rear brakes got to be suspect, do a search o the topic and you'll see they aint the most reliable things in the world. You may have a lining parted company from a shoe or sumthi daft like that. Dont need a good garage for that, pop...

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

Yeh I suppose its the damage it can do once its tightened thats the real issue. Hmmm

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

This issue with the front/rear drive ratio difference. If this leads to constant slipping of the vcu during normal driving this is surely keeping it effectively "warmed". My point is that surely this means the vcu will transfer drive to the rear wheels quicker I the event of momentary loss of...

Who removes their prop 8 months of the year?

Agree as above that thats the way the vehicle was designed and thats the way it should be run. Slippery situations could be encountered at any time. Also im sure insurance companies would take a pretty dim view of removing the rear prop shaft of a 4wd vehicle....especially if toh dont tell them...

    Easiest Fit CDL Yet.

Stars!! Now if they had done that without taking the whole centre console out it would have been even better!

    Top rad pipe bleed screw

I would do both of these things, and if the hot screwdriver works, take the new hose back for refund. :)

    Td5 clutch slave cylinder fault?

Thanks guys, I actually just confirmed my fears as even tho it felt ok around town I just returned home via the dual carriageway, gave it a bit of oomph as a test and mrs (more sensitive snitch than me) asked what burning smell was. She didnt get it when I said thats the smell of 500 quid...

    Td5 clutch slave cylinder fault?

Following my post yesterday where I suspected my clutch may be one the way out after long time noise from spigot bush, today when I first went out I the car I tried a couple of things. As usual on cold mornings the spigot bush was droaning away. I pumped the clutch pedal a couple of times and...

    td5 clutch renewal.

Thanks....confidence building, ive seen a few valeo kits for sale at good prices so good to see a recommendation. Other thing I saw In rave was some support arrangement for geatbox....special kit obviously but I assume a jack and possibly some wooden blocks could do the same...ish sort of job.:)

    td5 clutch renewal.

Well its finally happened. Its fair to say ive had the morning spigot bush moaning going on for zome time altho it never actually affected the drive of the disco. This morning however was a different story. The usual moaning followed by a bit of juddering and clutch slipping which settled down...

    Td5 lost power

Do a search on "MAP" sensor now. You havent mentioned it and its quite likely the source of your problem. 10 mins job with a bit of carb cleaner, a 13mm and an 8mm spanner. Good luck.

    Ace pump replacment

As jamesmartin says ^^^, if you dont do this it can take a long time to self prime and the pump will probably already be damaged by the time it does. Once pump primed and belt re-fitted, circulating parts of system will self prime quickly withengine running. After takin a spin and creating some...

Zero power when towing horse trailer?

It does sound like it may be an engine problem if you say the vehicle feels gutless even when not towing. My td4 tows a 1300kg boat and trailer easily, doesnt fly up hills but doesnt struggle. When was car last serviced? When were trailer brakes and bearings last checked out? You should be able...

    freelander vs discovery

Totally agree, I think I can give you reasonable advice as I own a disco td5 2001 and a freelander td4 2003. The disco has ACE and I can tell you the freelander wallows more on cornering than the disco does. The disco is a better load lugger and slightly more comfortable. As some folks have...

Help Annoying rattle on my Disco TD5

+1 crank damper got to be a strong possibility given that noise seems to vary with changes in engine speed. Release the tension on the auxy belt and try and see if the damper has any free play axially.

    EGR valve

Yes once youve decrudded it you can move it but it is against a spring which us stronger than you would expect........unless that was just mine!! I can remember the exact technique now but think when I had mine off it was obvious where to apply force to move it. A lot of folks remove them but...

Interesting reading, they market these polybushes as if they are indestructable and a must have.
