    Fuel Tank Options

Are you sure? I mean, I built (soldered the components on the boards) & programmed this megasquirt, along with a 2nd one on my boat, along with helped another friend with the specs and guidance on his one. All work really well. And if you don't want it to do something, you just change it. The...

    Fuel Tank Options

Yeah, it's not great. I will also do some work on the fuel & ignition map (I have it on a megasquirt), but to be fair, it's a V8. If I wanted MPG I'd have a diesel. It's a 3.9 motor from a 97' discovery (what's called the "intermediate" motor), with the rimmer bros sports exhaust (tubular...

Going "Full LED" - lessons learnt

I needed to replace them anyway - all old ones (33 years old) were all starting to get corroded and unreliable - regularly needing stripping and cleaning to keep them working. So I probably wouldn't have replaced them "just because", but at the point they needed replacing anyway, I think...

Going "Full LED" - lessons learnt

I've just upgraded my 1989 90 to have LED lights all round. Just thought I'd share my "lessons", since when googling it, there's difference choices & options. 1. Headlights - I like the trucklite headlights because they look pretty close to original. I don't like the "lens" look that many of...

    Fuel Tank Options

I've been looking around for some options to add a bit more fuel tank capacity to my 1989 90 (fuel tank under the drivers seat) since I only get maybe 110 miles out of a tankful (Because V8). There's doesn't seem to me much choice that I can find - does anyone know of any good options?

Land Rover Defender TD5 110 - No Brake Pedal

Just as a bit of a note on eezi bleed - they're OK and certainly a step up from doing it all manually. But these days I use the laser 4832 or sealey VS820 brake bleeders. Yes, they're more expensive than an eezi bleed - but on a time & aggro basis to get brakes bled perfectly the first time...

    RDX Fuse Box Switch Pod

Thanks for the link to the mudstuff pod - that looks good too doesn't it. I've decided to give the RDX fuse pod a go to check it out - now on order.

    RDX Fuse Box Switch Pod

Has anyone got one of these fitted? I'm just about to make a little panel that goes in the open area of the dash in the middle to mount a couple of gauges and a carplay headunit (to give me satnav and hitch cams), but I need to add a few switches. I can either make my new panel wide enough to...

    More heat in the Cab

Freshly sprayed drivers door, along with all the rest of it I could reasonably do (so seat box, bulkhead internals and rear load area are still in blue) The lesson on all that is don't bother trying to do a garage respray. It's a nightmare! Between keeping the dust down, the right temperature...

    More heat in the Cab

Engine efficiency is roughly 1/3rd to the wheels, 1/3rd as heat out the exhaust and the other 1/3rd through the cooling system. So I think it’ll be fine. Every other car seems to handle a bigger heater matrix just fine.

    More heat in the Cab

Yup, list of jobs done including replacing the gearbox. Heater is teed off the heater hoses from the engine. In theory it’s a 4.5KW jobbie, so I hope it does the job. If this doesn’t get me enough heat, I do also have a petrol powered eberspacher somewhere.. This was the other job finished...

    More heat in the Cab

I thought some people might be interested in my additional heater. It's a 4.5KW jobbie that I've mounted underneath the cubby. Just a rough job on the cubby for now to see if it all works as planned.

    Factory V8 Defender

Thanks. Yeah, I think staying Rover V8 and LT85 is generally what I'm keen to do because that's the heart of the vehicle- although when the time comes, a nice 4.6 isn't cheap any more. I doubt I'd ever go back to an SU carbed 3.5 though. :)

    Factory V8 Defender

I've got a 1989 CSW V8. Still running a Rover V8, albeit not the original 3.5 carbed one that expired many years ago (now a 3.9 efi). When I eventually replace the chassis, I think I might add a bit more power too. However, I've always felt that as a factory built V8, I should keep a Rover V8...

Do you keep a fire extinguisher in your Defender?

Well, 4th or 5th. In first you stand a chance it driving off. But aside from that, yes, jam it into top gear and dump the clutch. Properly dump it too, not feather. You don't want to be burning the clutch out before the engine stops. Posting just in case anyone else is unfortunate enough to...

Disk upgrade on a 90, can you swap front discs to rear?

Are you sure? I thought the 4 speed manual was the old LT95 box that the Stage 1 V8 and Range Rovers of that age had. I think the 90/Defender has only ever had the LT85, until the 50th Anniversary model that was auto?

    Value of high mileage Defender?

Any defender I'd buy solely based on condition. They're just meccano, so if anything wears out, it's easy to replace.

Disk upgrade on a 90, can you swap front discs to rear?

Are you really sure you need the 24 spline? I did consider that path myself, but certainly the rear brakes don't do much at the best of times, so any disks on the rear along with the vented fronts is good. I tow a max weight trailer behind my 90 and I've never found the rig wanting for brakes...

Disk upgrade on a 90, can you swap front discs to rear?

I've done similar on mine - 110 vented disks & calipers on the front, really easy swap. On the rear, I've now got a discovery axle which was also a nut & bolt swap, which gave me rear disks too. It was impractical to upgrade the old drum hubs to disks, easiest way was to just switch the axle...

    Wheel Offset

Thanks both. I’m happy with it on the boosts + spacers, so if I target et0 on the steels then I guess all will be OK.
