I've been looking around for some options to add a bit more fuel tank capacity to my 1989 90 (fuel tank under the drivers seat) since I only get maybe 110 miles out of a tankful (Because V8). There's doesn't seem to me much choice that I can find - does anyone know of any good options?

Engine efficiency is roughly 1/3rd to the wheels, 1/3rd as heat out the exhaust and the other 1/3rd through the cooling system. So I think it’ll be fine. Every other car seems to handle a bigger heater matrix just fine.

Yup, list of jobs done including replacing the gearbox. Heater is teed off the heater hoses from the engine. In theory it’s a 4.5KW jobbie, so I hope it does the job. If this doesn’t get me enough heat, I do also have a petrol powered eberspacher somewhere.. This was the other job finished...

I thought some people might be interested in my additional heater. It's a 4.5KW jobbie that I've mounted underneath the cubby. Just a rough job on the cubby for now to see if it all works as planned.

Thanks. Yeah, I think staying Rover V8 and LT85 is generally what I'm keen to do because that's the heart of the vehicle- although when the time comes, a nice 4.6 isn't cheap any more. I doubt I'd ever go back to an SU carbed 3.5 though. :)

Are you sure? I thought the 4 speed manual was the old LT95 box that the Stage 1 V8 and Range Rovers of that age had. I think the 90/Defender has only ever had the LT85, until the 50th Anniversary model that was auto?

Any defender I'd buy solely based on condition. They're just meccano, so if anything wears out, it's easy to replace.

Are you really sure you need the 24 spline? I did consider that path myself, but certainly the rear brakes don't do much at the best of times, so any disks on the rear along with the vented fronts is good. I tow a max weight trailer behind my 90 and I've never found the rig wanting for brakes...

I've done similar on mine - 110 vented disks & calipers on the front, really easy swap. On the rear, I've now got a discovery axle which was also a nut & bolt swap, which gave me rear disks too. It was impractical to upgrade the old drum hubs to disks, easiest way was to just switch the axle...
