    Surely not...52.33mm really?

i got the Sealey one...although i've never actually unwrapped it - i use it in the original postal black bag wrapping- keeps it nice and clean!

    Surely not...52.33mm really?

Doing the hubs (1988 RRC) and thought i'd be all smart and get a 52mm socket for the adjustment rather than pipe wrenches... Bought one, it arrived nicely packed by the seller from eBay. Laid out my prayer mat and began the service. Amen. Very odd....the hub nut won't quite fit the socket...

    Spoke too soon!

282 all in. Salty, but the fuel improvement will take care of that pretty quickly

    Spoke too soon!

https://www.distributordoctor.com/ i've had various bits from him over time - always very helpful. Also had the entire distributor gubbins serviced and calibrated which transformed fuel consumption. Good kit and advice - i've been impressed.

    Spoke too soon!

I went with the big fat Magnecore ones (the ones that don't fit in the LR lead holder comb https://www.magnecor.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Magnecor-Retail-Catalogue-Web-1.pdf ), but they have had no issues in about 4 years of use and are still flexible and good. Genuine for the cap. I...

Where is that bloody water coming from in the footwell?

For pre-93 (I think) everything ran on R12 which was wonderful apart from being pretty bad for the environment. They moved to R134 which doesn't work in R12 equipment (well it does for a while and then ruins it - different oils etc). Most people seem to have either abandoned R12 and do without...

Where is that bloody water coming from in the footwell?

RRC 1988 with fully working aircon - brilliant you may think. Well yes, in one way, but the squelchy carpet says otherwise. exit tube is clear and in case anyone worries there is no water under the vehicle it exits onto the exhaust... however there are two water drains off the a/c as far as i...

Wibble Wobble - it may well be the panhard

Covered left, right and centre, but i had the deathly wobble appear on the RR. Surely it couldn't be the bushings as i'd done those a few years ago and not done many miles. Everything eliminated (swivel weights, tie rod ends, alignment, damper (yes, i know that has nothign to do with it))...

    Please fuel consumption surprise!

Noted in my 'rattley noise' thread, i put my freshly serviced distributor back in and adjusted to where i needed for the same performance and noted an increase from 17mpg (best) to over 20. That was with aircon blasting so very please. Wondered if anyone else had noted similar or is getting...

    Rattle from power steering area

Just a followup for anyone interested (although should maybe be a new thread) after i adjusted the timing (twisting the distributor etc) after DD refurb i did note a pleasant surprise in fuel consumption. Previously i'd only ever achieved ~17mpg at best. Now i did 85 motorway and B road on...

    Rattle from power steering area

couldn't get new pulley and had a penny drop moment when looking at the exploded diagram and remembered i didn't undo a nut in that position...connected that missing nut may cause vibration and hence the clicking / knocking. And so it turned out. Now i have to adjust my timing having had the...

    Rattle from power steering area

so now the problem is solved. and the lesson here children is always look for a more simple solution. on the mounting doohickey for the PS pump there are two studs. One was missing a nut so the rotating forces and pulls of the alternator made that stud move just enough every revolution of the...

    Rattle from power steering area

Well the new pulley would be on the way, but seems to be afflicted by 'in Stock', but not 'in Stock' and not available...time to try again, and again, and again

    Rattle from power steering area

So...there's a tapping / rattle at the front of the engine, passenger side down by the PS pump (3.5 efi 1988). Long screwdriver stephoscope has removed all the other likely suspects (as has changing and rebuilding various bits...oh well). It looks like the actual pulley (ETC6408) is making the...

Swapping out the old Marelli alternator for a nice new one..

RRC - 1987 3.5 EFI Just in case you find yourself doing this and wondering why the tacho and battery light don't work as they should (or at all)...let me give you a summarised version of my week 1) Old alternator getting noisy (probably bearings) - so it's removed 2) New alternator purchased...

RRC 1988 bottom heater hose build

Yes, it's a bit odd the thinking here - you are spot on. I've got the aftermarket one mixed with an alu radiator, but it's not a great fit (it's ok, but hells own job to get on and had to trim the end as it was just too long - aftermarket rad is slightly thicker) and i cannot get it to stop...

RRC 1988 bottom heater hose build

As i've now discovered LR have stopped making original hoses for the 1988 3.5 efi. Thinking (and looking) at it though can anyone tell me if: 1) The 3.5 carb bottom hose is the same as the efi minus the T-pipe to the coolant resevoir? 2) Is there a reason not to take such hose, cut and insert...
