Thanks for ya help, I did have the other end of the axle apart to check and replaced the bronze bush,seals and wheel bearings that side too, I don't know the history of the diff but I did give it a good inspection and everything seemed nice and tight with no play in it, maybe it could be the cv...

I checked all the bolts yea looks like it was just chucked together, the shaft was fine w here is sits inside the bush, nice and smooth and tight fit with new bush, all splines looked good all way through axle with little to no play,the worst bit was where the swivel sits in the housing the edge...

Well I got a secondhand diff from paddocks, the diff looked in good condition with hardly any play in in compared to my one, once dismantled my diff didn't realy look that bad, no teeth missing or obvious sighns of wear. On taking everything apart I found that the stub axle bolts on passenger...

Thanks for the parts advice, got the shaft out this afternoon, not as bad as I thought, took me about hour or so ta get it out and all back together, turns out it is a 10 spline so have ordered another, sorry foxyred I only need the diff, everything else looks good, hopefully

Right I will check see if it has a drain plug, I did use ep90 and have enough left to do the front diff. All the nuts look in pretty good condition so could be possible to remove the whole lot. If done this way are there any seals or gaskets need replacing, wanna get all the bits ordered

Yea I know, I done both front wheel bearings today. Wasn't as bad as I thought, took me around 3 hours. Gonna take one out tomorrow afternoon to see how many splines so can get all the bits for weekend When I tackle it what other seals and gaskets should I have to replace

Are the splines near the hub end of the shaft the same as the other end as when I was doing the wheel bearings it def had more than 10 splines on it

Hia all, I have a 1990 defender, still soughting out problems, I renewed the front wheel bearings today as there was a droning noise. After i fitted them thought I would refresh the diff oils , the rear was fine and oil was clean, the front one was very metallic and managed to get these 2 lumps...

I have checked the wires just inside the back door where the wires come out behind the lights the is a connection and there is no power getting there so must be up front somewhere, the foil strips on the back window all look intact and in good condition, is it possible I could bypass the relay...
