the 14 day bit is still a grey area because 4x4 aren't racing or doing speed trials. you can bet the council will be on you like a tonne of bricks but as long as you follow the rules they cant do anything. but what ever you do, don't let anyone make a mess on the roads when they exit your land.

I've registered imported motorcycles and anything newer than 10 years has to meet all the euro regs etc and have a certificate to say it does. any older than 10 just need a letter from the manufacturer to state the year it was built so you can get an age related plate. (or from a club)

Have you put a straight edge on the head to see what they are like?

I remember someone at work putting a similar cock up into buckets/tubs and then when the diesel settles on top of the petrol he just syphoned the diesel off the top, leaving the petrol in the tubs.

that's how I do all my bike engine casings.

wd-40 is not a lubricant. if that solved the problem you need to put something else on it, I'd imagine the wd40 evaporated when it got hot and went tight again.

what was the problem and how did you solve it?

can you get any of the bolts in so it will stay lined up even if there is a gap and then turn the gearbox or the crank whilst gently helping it home. if your on your own it will be a right pain.
