I had the same problem on mine. the outer steel shell expands due to corrosion meaning the correct socket no longer fits. if you find one that does fit it just bends the steel shell as though its spinning. I had to do the same as the others and chissel the outer bit off and use the smaller...

theres already a fibreglass kit you can buy to do something similar, so I think it would be a cool project. Just dont change anything on the chassis or you'll run in to problems with the dvla/points system.

I just googled the part number and found this. Thermostat part number ERR3291. This fits the 300TDi engines in the Land Rover Defender Discovery 1 & Range Rover Classic 92-94. The thermostat is fully open at 88 degrees. This will fit the models with or without Air Conditioning.

is there any way your springs have shifted when they jacked it up?
