    td5 wheel bearing

My fronts "grumbled" for a fair few thousand miles before I changed them. The rear didn't show any external signs of wear, until the ABS sensor started playing-up. the other rear is original at 179000 miles If you have good RAC breakdown cover, it may be worth having a go!

Most likely "Smokestone Grey" or it's a special edition of some sort? Exmoor Trim may be able to help?

To buy a TD5 or not

A stated above, TD5's are a fine vehicle. Late in 2001, many of the issues were fixed (such as replacing the dowels in the head from plastic to metal). I've owned a 2002 from new, now on 178,000 miles. A few niggles but generally excellent. It does tow very well, with lots of low-down...

    D2 Transmission Noise

:p:rolleyes: OK - I am a muppet! It was the driver's side rear wheel - it was loose! I just happened to notice one of the wheel nuts looked loose, and it was! Along with a couple of others! The wheel has been on 2 years since I had the wheels re-painted, and new AT2's installed. I'm...

    D2 Transmission Noise

Anyone got any ideas here? On a long drive, fully laden last night. After about 50 miles at 65mph, I slowed down to a roundabout, and as I got below 10mph, an odd noise, apparently coming from the rear underneath. It sounds a bit like a pushbike freewheel hub but louder/deeper. Like a...

    What model is this Disco?

Hmm - OK I'll explain better. I have a GS. It is coil sprung. I've taken the ACE off because it's problematic. Disco sunroofs leak. This "E" does not have sunroofs to leak, nor does it have ACE to give trouble. It has coils rather than SLS so no leaky airbags. A lot of Disco owners...

    What model is this Disco?

Agree - an "E" specification. The next one up, the "S" had front fogs and headlight washers. IMHO, the lower-spec cars are better for long term ownership - no sunroofs to leak, no ACE to go wrong, and good old coil-sprung suspension. Looks nice & tidy. I hope you enjoy it. This link...

    Advice on Tyres

Waxoyl - it's a personal preference, but I would say yes. Make sure you cover the ACE and brake pipes well to avoid/postpone the costs there as long as possible. Tyres. AT's would be good for road, and help tow the caravan on wet grass...? AT2's very good, BFG AT's slightly better imho.

    gearbox oil

Yep, MTF94 is available at a decent price, it's recommended by Land Rover, and most of us use it... You may find it's actually cheaper from your local LR dealer (I did). The Difflock stuff is supposed to be better. As above, MTF...wouldn't do it myself.

    De-Ace a Disco 2?

What I would say is that binning ACE is much better with coil sprung suspension. It's a bit wallowy/lively with air bags...

    What's it worth?

The condition is improtant. If it's well looked after, recent service, good tyres, no dents, tidy upholstery etc, full MOT & Tax, it could be worth a bit more imho. Prices recovered a bit recently following the heavy snow in December - that created a vacuum in the 2nd hand market...

    td5 disco fuel dramas

Just a thought...have you also replaced the air filter? Not tried this in a TD5, but in an older (petrol/carburettor not injection) motorbike, a clogged air filter increased fuel consumption significantly... Worth a try if you've not changed the air filter recently?

How to solve a "wondering wagon!"

Sounds like wheel alignmnet to me as well - especially with the tyre wear issue. A couple of years ago I put new AT2's on the rear, whilst still running old BFT AT's on the front (it was a temporary measure whilst I was getting my wheels repainted). That made the vehicle really susceptable...

D1 and D2 front props the same size?
