Never mind, keep the faith and hopefully you'll have some fun doing the repairs. You're guaranteed to learn loads in the process. I'm sure there's plenty of people on here who'll answer questions as you go. Take some pics and let us see how it's going :)
Hi,
I know better than to buy Britpart, however I picked up a coil on eBay, new part £10 from a "quality manufacturer" - lasted 3 months.
I was gutted when my 'quality part' arrived in the dreaded blue and white box. SIII refused to spark last week and I immediately suspected the coil.
The...
If anyone is fitting a lumenition kit I came across this the other day

I am looking for a new dizzy very interested in the SimonBBC one posted on this thread, I have an early SIII 72 (built) reg 73, with what looks like the original rather tired...
I had problems with the usual rusted, practically fossilised fastners changing one of these, decided to bend the fitting at the top to remove the glass then bend it back with a block of wood and a G-clamp... bit cowboy but saved lots of agro!
Another, 'i know this is daft' one....
But... are you turning the wipers on first? On mine if I didn't do this, the jet hit one wiper arm and didn't go on the screen. I spent a while once sitting in the cab unable to see why one window was dry when pushing the button.
Wipers on first it was...
No. The mount plate the carb sits on is the standard part, the Carb manufacturers make theirs to suit, i.e if you have a Weber 34 ICH for land rover carb, it will fit.
Hello Salve,
it's very simple to do...
You'll be fine. You shouldn't encounter the usual rusted on nuts and other Series ball aches either! I did mine recently in 30 mins.
Worth getting a step (spare wheel) to stand on for ease of access when undoing the fasteners. As well as removing air...
Worth checking your cold start procedure...
I have a petrol now, used to have a diesel, I swapped the glow coils for plugs, new ballast coil too, but even so, on cold days would need 30 seconds of preheat before firing up nicely.
Hello,
Any thoughts on what caused this please?
Driving home today, moving slowly in traffic and then there was a puff of black smoke from under the bonnet and the engine cut out.
Restarted immediately and I pulled over, engine running perfectly fine static. Drove home and no further...
Hi,
My petrol SIII was running rough recently after fitting a new Weber 34ICH carb. Starting much better, but cutting out and then starting ok, didn't like being left for a few days without starting.
The fuel pump was the issue, a spring in one valve worked its way loose and was holding the...
Hi folks,
Decided to replace my SIII's carb (a very old Webber 34 ICH) with a brand spanking new identical one. It wasn't working properly when idling, probably just mucky and some of the linkages were looking tired casing a little rusty. So rather than clean and rebuild I just put in a new...
When you say running, do you mean road-worthy? MOT those leaf springs sorted etc? Or just a standing project with an engine that will start?
You could have quite a nice project there scrounging the missing bits and trawling for parts and so on. If you'd enjoy getting it running and road worthy...
