    Bleeding Clutch

Recovered the rod with a magnet; rod in particularly bad state, bent and very little left of the ball at the end. Didn't bother with the plastic clip just used the slave to hold rod in place and pushed it all together. Bleeding was a doddle, followed advice here regarding RAVE and everything...

    Bleeding Clutch

Not what I wanted to hear but understandable !! On the other hand could wait and then do clutch, DMF, release lever and rod all at the same time !! Thanks to all that have replied - it may be a few days before I post an update

    Bleeding Clutch

Disaster - not only did the push rod stay inside the bell housing, it promptly fell off along with the plastic clip. I have recovered the clip but am struggling to get the push rod out. Do you think I could leave it to rattle about and put a new one on instead !!?

    Bleeding Clutch

Replacing the slave cylinder but a couple of questions before I start: 1/ - Rave states that you withdraw the cylinder from the gearbox along with the push rod. Is this correct or should the push rod stay put? 2/ - Rave also has what I think is an odd way of bleeding the system, pressing and...

TD5 - ABS, TC and HD lights

Excellent Sierrafery – that worked and all lights now stay on for ‘self test’ and then extinguish. Certainly set the old cat amongst the pigeons with this one, shame the lights didn’t come on after the MOT, would have then had time to get it all sorted and not asked for help. How many of the...

TD5 - ABS, TC and HD lights

Great reply - after much thought and a few cans of beer (Adnams of course) I think I may just be able to understand this. To keep it simple for me if I were to run a wire from the positive terminal of the battery to holes 5 and 10 on connector 233 the light would be extinguished ? Thank God...

TD5 - ABS, TC and HD lights

MOT booked for early next week and the three amigos have appeared. Don't have time to solve the issue so was trying to disable the actual dash lights. I have disconnected wires 5 and 10 in connector 233, but that didn't work, I have taken the connector out but that didn't work. Removed...

will de-cating my disco give me MOT problems,

My later D2 TD5 came out of the factory without a CAT or DPF as standard, did LR change their minds about the Germans ? Truckerdan - I bet the silly bu**er had left his heating on at home. Anyway, everything gives us cancer these days........ it'll probably be taxed soon.

Headlight washers? When do they work?

Lost mine when we fell off a wall, some idiot in the maketing dept. must have thought they were a selling point, only marginally better than having wipers down there

1999 TD5 - head gasket failure :( - Need advice on doing HG please

It's a pressurised cooling system so if you take the cap off when it's hot coolant will go everywhere. If no anti freeze has been used and it has just been topped up with water, in this weather it is possible that your cooling system has frozen, especially to the heater, happened to mine a few...

    Headlights not working

Same happened to mine, both connectors to the headlight bulbs had melted, replaced and all fine now.

    Fuel pump

Same issues a while ago, changed the diaphragm in the FPR and now better, not great, but better. No leaks but after several hours standing it's obvious that the pressure has dropped as it takes a few seconds for full power to be delivered. The other possibility is injector seals, rough running...

    low power

Got the same problem although initially the D2 would cut out at the most awkward places (toll booths !) - I think it is a failing diaphragm (spelling ?). Tried the flea bay O rings, no joy, tried a new diaphragm - fine for a while but now starting to exhibit similar behaviour. I'm going to live...

    D2 - chassis

Seeking inside information - Did LR change the chassis composition during the production of the Discovery Series 2 TD5 / V8 ? A few people I have spoken to have had problems with terminal rust on the later models but I still see a fair number of earlier ones on the road, including mine. I may be...

    Discovery TD5 Rear Camshaft Seal

If anybody is still watching this tread (must be bored) how on earth do you get a scredriver down the back? I have even taken the rocker cover off to try and gain a bit more access but still can't find anything to get any purchase on, let alone hold the scredriver in place.

Changing from 235 tyres to 225 - any problems?

Need someone more technically minded, but if you put a matched axle pair of tyres on say the rears, which are a different diameter to the fronts, what happens when you lock the central diff? Will anything break ?

    Discovery TD5 Rear Camshaft Seal

When installing the new one, put a little Vaseline on the rubber seal. It'll help to ease it in. (waits for comments...................................) I bet you say that to all the woman......... New seal in shed, old rag stuffed down back of engine and being replaced every week to prevent...

    starting on frosty mornings

Poss. weak battrey, changed mine recently and now starts on the button. Before that the battery would turn the engine over but it didn't fire up for ages. Seems the starter takes all the power and the rest of the electrical gizmos are starved. Also check the crap battery terminals are seated...
