    Freelander 1 td4 clutch replacement (I hope)

OK here we go, in order to avoid the cost of a professional clutch replacement on the Mrs' 2003 "Free"lander which would be more than half the value of the car, I am about to undertake the task myself. I am aware that these bigger jobs are best done with a lift or pit, access to every possible...

    Milestone, or millstone?

Thanks Nodge, I have seen several good reports about the quality of calderclutch recons so I guess it should be ok. I think I should start a new thread about the ordeal I'm about to put myself through, the worst case scenario is that my abject failure to carry out the task will at least be a...

    Rear door problems

If it is the cable that has broken a complete kit to repair it is available cheaply on ebay etc. It may be worth checking the fuse which controls the tailgate glass lift/drop function (yellow fuse F31, 20amp, ) which is located behind the fascia panel on the drivers side.

300tdi into 3.9 V8 (nothing new there then)

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love V8's and deep down feel that a Classic with a diesel engine is an abomination;) The reason I had decided to go over to the dark side was simply the far lower running costs, I have had 3 other v8's in the past which were LPG converted (the current one isn't)...

    Milestone, or millstone?

I have looked at new clutch parts but it's not my money I'll be spending and that's close to double the price. That's why I was asking if anyone has experience of calderclutch, I'm trying to keep the price down for her but obviously only if the lower priced option is worth buying. As things...

    Milestone, or millstone?

While searching for advice on which clutch kit to fit a company called Calder clutch has come highly recommended, I sent an enquiry and received a price quote Cover and plate £30 If with the csc £65 This seems like an absolute bargain Before I go ahead and order it has anyone heard anything bad...

300tdi into 3.9 V8 (nothing new there then)

The 3.9 had a blown head gasket and dribbly core plug(s) I took the engine out replaced both head gaskets and fitted a full set of new core plugs, The engine was put back but before the ijob was completed I was tempted by a RR with a 2.8 TD Daihatsu engine. After standing for so long now I don't...

    Milestone, or millstone?

My Freelander has now had to take a back seat while I delve into the joys of side of the road clutch replacement, the car in question being the Mrs' '03 Freelander. 1st time for everything they say:eek:

300tdi into 3.9 V8 (nothing new there then)

As the Freelander has started to become more of a hindrance than a help I think it's time to make some effort with a project that has been put aside for 5 years or more. I have a 1994 RRC 3.9V8 and a 1998 Discovery 1 300tdi both automatics. The Discovery was bought as a donor vehicle but I ended...

    Milestone, or millstone?

In the time I've had it I've only done the usual oil and filters stuff plus a couple of mot advisories but the previous owner is pretty concientious about looking after his cars so I'll check with him what's been done..I have traced the leaking fluid, it's diesel, dripping off the undertray...

    Milestone, or millstone?

After many years of owning series vehicles and old Range Rovers I thought the '06 Freelander td4 commercial that a friend was selling would make the perfect motorway runabout and dog transporter. And I was right, up to a point, after over a year of trouble free, mostly motorway miles things...

Tests new Freelander 1 owners should do on their car

With regard to rust etc this wasn't the problem with mine as while replacing the shoes everything was thoroughly cleaned but the shoes had stuck again overnight, luckily they freed off easily. Since then I only ever use the handbrake if I have to park on a steepish hill.

Tests new Freelander 1 owners should do on their car

If I may add to the list of Freelander 1 troubles, I don't know how common it is but if mine is left for more than a day or two with the handbrake on, particularly in wet weather, the brake will be seized when I try to move off. It can usually be rocked free but after it was left parked up for a...
