    attempted alternator change.. AAARRRGGGHHH

Well I didn't get very far, just very angry! I read lots of threads on the subject of changing the alternator on my TD4, and liked the one saying it can be done from underneath without taking much stuff away, belt and undertray I think that was it. I got as far as removing wheel, and partly...

is it really that easy to remove? thought it involves jacking up front, undertray off, remove AC belt, slacken stuff, then if yer lucky take it off??

    unknown alternator...

so its better to spend £100-400 on a new alternator than £15 on a new regulator? I'd have to disagree with you there! only problem for me is to try find just the regulator, I'm just going on the numbers I could see while its still on the engine.

    unknown alternator...

Yep the battery is new as I thought that was the problem initially (should have tested the original, but no time) so now have a perfectly good spare! I had the voltmeter on the battery terminals at idle.. 12.9v, up the revs and 13.6 or so, switch stuff on and in drops right down to 12.notmuch v...

    06 TD4, won't start

Had a thorough service at the weekend (the TD4, not me.. :D) At Woodside Garage, luckily only about 5 miles from home, needed a couple more things .. drop links, something to do with a pinion (can't quite remember what) and wiper blades. He did comment on its unusually rusty underside though...

    06 TD4, won't start

Well that was a major faff.. changing the battery, a 5 minute job, right? 2 hours later, finally done! Battery clamp bolt spinning but not releasing, tried to take the battery tray out, the last bolt is of course UNDER the battery, plan B, drill bolt head off and knock rest out with a FBH...

    06 TD4, won't start

Plumped for a Yausa silver battery in the end, what made me go for it is the fact my Kawasaki has this make, and its first battery lasted 15 years! oh, and comes with a 5 year warranty. bit pricey mind.

just got Freelander 1 TD4, service advice

Today picked up our first Landrover, a 2006 Freelander 1, diesel auto, 'Freestyle'. As with most my purchases, its an ebay buy, very tidy in and out, black with half black leather interior. The other half drove it back 90 miles with no problems, and I had a go, all seems sweet. Just has a...
