First week of driving after MOT

It sounds like you have found the cause of the problem.

    Cooling trouble-shooting

IMO, head gasket gone, that's exactly what happened to mine! Definitely do a compression test etc. When/if you do the head gasket, have the head checked to make sure it hasn't warped.

    Radiator leak

My colleague at work has a 98 FL 1.8 and kept saying the water level slowly went down and he had to keep topping it up! When you got in the car, you could smell the anti-freeze but checking under the bonnet, you couldn't see it leaking out anywhere! After a frustrating month or two, he...

    My Freelander progress thread

    So...what did it drive like?

    Great trip in my 1.8

Not all tarmac then, quite a mix of road surfaces! The guy I bought my FL was from Cape Town and enthused about going on road trips around SA when he was younger!

    Burning oil? Eeeeeek! FL1 1.8K

Have you checked the colour of the spark plugs? Are they black and sooty? That may give a quick indication if you are burning oil! If the level was going down so rapidly as per first post, you would have left a visible smoke trail as you drove along! Did that happen?

HELP Please - Does anyone have testbook

See the Sticky about the 3 Amigos! It may be easier to fix than you think! As for the emissions, you might have to bit the bullet and pay main stealers prices! Surely, there must be a less expensive independent LR garage in the area that uses Autologic rather than TestBook!

When you said you had a leek, I thought you were already in Wales!

    Great trip in my 1.8

They don't all self destruct as some people would have us believe! Have you got one or two pics for us to see?

Revs continuing to climb when changing gear

Doesn't the TD4 have a dual mass flywheel? That does indeed sound expensive!

    just a observasion really

I have a Series I owning colleague who is an ardent rivet counter! Totally insufferable!

    feeling low, so bought a P38 :)

Surely an engine swap would have been cheaper!

    suspension staying high

When I had me Disco TD5, changing to coils was probably the best update I did! Even 'er indoors noticed the improvement in ride and she is normally totally oblivious to such things!

Where to get get a new strut bolt?

I saw that you are progressing very well with your FL renovation!

    Burning oil? Eeeeeek! FL1 1.8K

Check oil filter as per c716. Have you done a compression test? Let us know what you find out.

    Freelander Parts (Breaker?) in Midlands

Have you looked on fleabay? Usually several available but you normally have to pay for postage which may bring the price up a bit!

    one for you lot

'er indoors sez that I can only go greenlaning in the 'lander as long as I don't scratch it or get it muddy! Ho hum!

    Clutch biting point

The clutch biting point on my 1.8 is very low! All I need to do is lift my foot from a fully depressed clutch pedal and it starts to bite! The car has only done 73k miles! My previous FL clutch was much higher than this! Is the clutch plate wearing out or is it more of a slave cylinder problem?

    one for you lot

I'm tempted to try a few lanes on Salisbury Plain today! I've not been greenlaning since I sold me Disco 18 months ago!
